I have a laptop with me which got smashed and barely works… I had some important data in it, but when i try logging into that as administrator, it freezes during startup, however, I can get access through a non-admin account, but cant access my ‘documents and settings’ folders on the admin account through that normal account. I know the administrator password so is there a way I can copy my files through the regular account by accessing that folder somehow? Thanks alot in advance.
put windows xp cd in.
Restart computer pick option of a) recovery and b) console.
It will ask you for admin password. Upon given pasword it will take you to DOS mode.
Then you will have access to all folders.
I haven't used windows for a while, So if some one has recent experence please correct me.
another way would be to use the "runas" command. Here's the format:
"runas /noprofile /u:domain\administrator something.exe"
It then asks for the password which you can type in. Usually what i do is run another session of cmd.exe and then have access to everything and be able to run any other application with the admin priv.
Just type in "runas" in the command prompt for all the various options.
