Richard Batista, 49, said he gave his kidney to Dawnell Batista in June 2001, and she filed for divorce in July 2005.
The couple has three children, aged 8, 11 and 14.
The New York Post reported that Dr Batista was dumped after his wife started seeing a physical therapist she met in 2003 while recovering from a knee injury suffered in karate lessons. “I saved her life and then to be betrayed like this is unfathomable. It’s incomprehensible,” the Post quoted Dr Batista as saying.
"She engaged in an extramarital affair and refused to goto marital counselling and reconciliation.
“She slapped me with divorce papers in the operating room while I was trying to save another patient’s life.”
Dominic Barbara, a lawyer for Dr Batista, was quoted as saying: “The main reason the doctor is doing this is because of how he’s been treated in this case.”
Dr Batista, a vascular surgeon for Nassau University Medical Centre, has demanded the $US1.5 million as part of the distribution of assets in the divorce.
A medical expert estimated the value of the kidney for the legal team.
lol...i heard about this. When i first heard about this I thought Gosh! this guy is crazy! He really wants his ex-wife dead! later I realized (after all the media hype) that he didnt mean that he wanted his kidney back in the literal sense. He wants what it is worth....estimated value 1.5million.
Well, you know the wedding vows: "to have and to hold in sickness and in health"
Since you're not together.......get everything back, lol. Wow imagine a prenup stating in fine print...."in case of divorce, partner receives nothing of my assets and must return my organs, if ever previously donated." LOL.
But all jokes aside, it's a sad story. First to cheat on your husband and then to give the divorce papers in such a ridiculous manners. The woman seems crazy.
Merge it with Organ donation in Life1, would be serve as a example to think before donating. Aaj tuk sirf dil deney/leney ka suna tha.. ab body parts ki bi moving start ho gai hai
That is why getting married to respectable families is important, it wont make arguments go away but it will minimise the extent of the damage if it does occur. Only in the US ... that is what I say.
