What kind of sick people are these? You as an owner of a business must be really worried before firing someone now…
Fired workers burn Indian executive to death
BHUBANESHWAR: Indian police detained two people after an angry mob of fired workers burned to death a senior executive of a steel factory, an official said Friday. After learning they were laid off, about a dozen workers attacked a vehicle carrying Radhey Shyam Roy as he was leaving the factory in eastern Orissa state on Thursday, dousing the Jeep with gasoline and setting it on fire, said police Superintendent Ajay Kumar Sarangi. Two other people in the vehicle were allowed to flee but Roy, 59, was trapped inside and later died of severe burns, Sarangi said. Police were questioning two workers and their formal arrest on murder charges was likely, Sarangi told. The steel factory is in Bolangir district, nearly 250 miles (400 kilometers) west of Bhubaneshwar, the capital of Orissa state.
what do you mean 'south asians'? you haven't heard of fired workers spraying bullets all over the town in other 'modern civilized western' countries?

I think its the manner of the murder thats most appaling. There is somthing very primitive,
primevil about burning somone, that speaks to people in a more visceral manner then a gun would.

sorry but that makes no sense. indiscriminate shooting in a mall or cafe is somehow 'sophisticated'? alright, how about the high tech flamethrowers that burn up entire city blocks and forests? is that more sophisticated and less primevil too?

Very sad especially for the family of Mr. Radhey Shyam Roy. Condolences to them.
Root cause for this type of violence appears to be hopelessness. When workers are fired, they lose hope, get desperate. In a country where the Ambanis (to just give one example) have amassed a lot of wealth, and the poor are left with little hope, at times such incidents can occur.
When prosperity spreads, violence will also go down.
Since most people in India do not have guns, when they resort to violence, unfortunately, the method often is very brutal. Hopefully the root cause can be addressed.

Your missing the point.
Burning someone alive requires far more violence. Its a very intimate form of murder, in that it requires the killer or killers to literally wrestle the person down, pour incendiary over them, and then watch as they die in pain.
A gun shot is anonymous, its done quickly and ends quickly.
People are shot dead every day in every part of South Asia and it doesnt make the news. The reason this is in the news is the violence of it. Its not the fact that they are Indian or Pakistani etc, its the gruesome manner in which the attack was done. You cant deny the fact that some forms of homicide are far more disturbing and attention garbing then others. No different from the Taliban decapitating people or hanging them.

Im not saying that any wanton form of killing is gentler. What im saying is, that the reason this is so shocking, is not just because of the wanton violence, but also the manner in which the crime was committed.
Its no secret that certain acts are more gruesome then others, and people respond to them differently. Burning someone Alive is a particularly cruel and violent means of killing anyone, and so people obviously have a more visceral response to such murders. Its psychology.
Its not that murders dont happen in other places, its the manner in which the crime was committed that makes people respond with such disgust.
Considering the amount of poverty and terrible circumstances under which people live in parts of South Asia, I would say South Asians are one of the most civilized folks. If the same poverty was present in the west, the violence would be infinitely higher. I salute the poor in that part of the world, who for the most part, take it on the chin without dishing it out. So my response to this thread title - "Have south asians gone mad" is a resounding "No".

Have to agree with you. My experience with goras is that the slightest disagreement and they come to blows.
India has more than a billion people and this is certainly not a norm. These were some of those who had their right to dream of a not-so-painful future snatched from them and I am sure this happens quite frequently in 'South Asia'.
