Sarah Palin’s new fence is meant to block a writer’s view of her homeFormer Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has fulfilled a promise to put up a fence to prevent a writer who moved in next door from observing her and her family.
Joe McGinniss leased the house next to Mrs Palin’s in Wasilla, Alaska, after signing a deal to pen a book about her.Mrs Palin - who said good fences make good neighbours - this week erected a tall fence between the two properties after saying he was “peering in”.
The fence comes despite her pledge to welcome Mr McGinniss with a pie.
A photo of the fence was posted on a blog maintained by Fox News, which employs the 2008 Republican Vice-Presidential candidate as an analyst.
The blog announces the fence is “to protect against the ‘Wasilla Stalker’”.
Commenters on the blog applauded the move, denouncing Mr McGinniss and the “liberal media” and suggesting Mrs Palin’s supporters set up camp outside his family’s home.
Publishing house Broadway Books has said in a statement that Mr McGinniss is to write a book about Mrs Palin’s “significance as both a political and cultural phenomenon and as an embodiment of the contradictory forces that shaped Alaska as it moved into its second half-century of statehood”.
It said McGinniss would be “highly respectful” of the Palin family’s privacy.
Mr McGinniss is perhaps best known for his 1968 book on Richard Nixon, The Selling of the President.
He has also written about Alaska and published novels and true crime accounts.
