Write a book and be a millionair!

Although, it is interesting that any item that undermines Islam, Eastern values, women rights in Islamic countries and so forth is very much sought after by western media.

I found ‘kite runner’, ‘my feudal lord’, ‘moth smoke’, etc to be of average literary value but were very keenly followed in the west.

So, I suggest a simple get-rich formula. Write a book about these issues and get rich and famous. You might expose yourself to a fatwa in the process though.

Re: Write a book and be a millionair!

Wont say that the thought never crossed my mind, but doesn't it require some basic literary skills or something?

Re: Write a book and be a millionair!

i guess 'basic' should do! :)

Re: Write a book and be a millionair!

but before that..............i am going to learn to spell!!!!! :)

Re: Write a book and be a millionair!

challo Omir jald jadi kitabein likho.
and they dotn have to be in english
ishtiaq ahmed was successful in pakistan and his books sucked

Re: Write a book and be a millionair!

You need them to be in English for two reasons:

  1. We need them to be acclaimed in the West
  2. We need to ensure that we dont become target of a fatwa

you kidding me ?? kite runner made me cry 3 times.

Exactly. You exaggerate the situation on ground. Make people emotional. Sell books!

It is a serious dream of mine to one day become a published author, InshaAllah. I've done research on the publishing process, and have learned that it is a common misconception that authors are rich from making millions off of their books.

Perhaps the author was already leading a well-to-do lifestyle before writing a book. And don't get me wrong, several authors have made it BIG such as the author of the Kite Runner, Stephen King, and J.K. Rowling (author of Harry Potter). BUT **that is only if your novel/book is a **HUGE success. Many authors actually work 2 jobs just to earn a sufficient living.

In fact, unless your book is an UNBELIEVABLY HUGE success, many authors make not much over a 1000 from their book. They might make more depending on how many books are sold. The publishing company and literary agent and illustrator also get a huge chunk of the profits when the book sells, leaving the author with not much. Typically authors only receive 10% of what their book sells for in the store. If you are writing a children's book.....you will only receive 5% because the other half goes to the illustrator.

And here's some interesting info. Many rich and famous authors such as Stephen King, J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter), and Dr. Seuss were rejected NUMEROUS times before someone saw potential in their work. Getting published is a long road of heartache and rejection.

Also, a huge share of the writer's market is monopolized by celebrities, companies like Disney, and already established authors. That means that these three groups of people are given FIRST PRIORITY at getting their story accepted.......instead of a newcomer. Celebrities (actors, musicians, politicians, wives of politicians, the politician's secretary, etc) will find it easier to publish a book (even a really BORING ONE) because of their position in society and the money that they will bring to the publishing company when the book sells.

Sorry, if this was too serious of a post. Just wanted to share a little bit about the publishing process.

And still you want to become an author? :D (just kidding)

On a serious note, I believe if you really like telling stories and you're good at it, there's no stopping. I guess this goes for any profession.

Good luck!

Thanks :) Write now it's a dream that has made a little progress, but I'm hoping it will be a reality it its meant to be, InshaAllah. It's not so much about the money as it is about the joy that comes from knowing people are reading your work, enjoying it, and possibly feeling inspired. Plus, it's kinda cool to know that you get to leave this world behind with something creative and inspiring.

so you think those are exaggerated situations and in reality it isn't all that bad? surprised!!!

OK “omairhr”, “redvelvet”, “PM”, “Lusi”,“X2”…I have an Idea…:ahaa:
you all can participate and get your creativity in gear…:help1:

Write a fiction about “Obama”…How a son of a Muslim African Man…becomes the most powerful person on Earth…I say fiction because the story line will be …that Barack Hussein Obama is actually a Muslim just like Barack Hussein Obama Senior his Father was!..:chai:

any Takers?

well get this,, nothing in kyte runner was un true, nither was it exaggeration.
Nothing wich we havent seen in out life time, from boy getting-rape to envision of a contury.

BUT

thinking about what you said::::

We hear all of above over decades, but in movies/books it all come together in a few hour window. hmmmmm
May be that is the key??

Re: Write a book and be a millionair!

err....i do write my keen cognition here on GS...but i cant present myself to gain sympathies from the westerners.

as tipu sultan said "It is far better to live like a Tiger for a day than to live like a jackal for a hundred years".

ps. i prefer to write as a flâneur.

Are you revealing my secret?

Could be. I haven't been to Afghanistan but I have some Afghan friends and what they tell me is totally different from the western perspective of the country. They tell me that I need to see some Persian movies about the country!

Re: Write a book and be a millionair!

Assalamo Alaikum,

I am new to this forum. I have written a book which is going to be published inshallah by the end of Feb/early Mar. It is available on the internet and for the past few days I have been trying to paste the URL here but whenever I try, the message I get is that I need to have at least 25 messages posted on the forum before being allowed to paste a url. Sorry folks, but if you are still interested, you can try world wide web dot bookhabit dot com slash book slash 1448 slash NEITHER-A-JUST-WAR-NOR-JUST-A-WAR

I was looking at the title of this thread, "Write a book and be a millionaire". Honestly, it is easier said than done; Anybody can write a book but you have to be real good to be able to get it published. Publishers and literary agents these days are extremely fussy and choosy about accepting a book. I can't quote figures here but the fact is that every year far greater number of books get rejected than accepted all over the world. For those who can afford it, the answer then lies is self publishing, i.e. rather than getting paid for the publication of your book, you pay to get it published. In that case, it is not "Write a book and be a millionaire" but "Be a millionaire and write a book"

Congratulations on getting your book published Guru. I too have been working on that dream for some time and hope it will become a reality soon. I'm not a fan of self-publishing. Getting your book published by a reputable publishing company that does not ask for a single dime and PAYS YOU for your work because they sincerely LOVED IT.....now that's amazing and quite an accomplishment:)
