Re: Wraping Sari
When i got married, i got all my saris sewn. But i soon discovered that sewn saris do not have the same look as the ones you tie on your own. I learnt how to tie a sari and had to unstich all my saris. The key is to practice, practice and practice and you will look elegant in a sari in no time.
Re: Wraping Sari
My first sari, I was so scared that I had it belted, came home tried it on and it just looked disgusting. Not that it wasnt stitched properly.
Took me an hour to undo the stitching then a few days hunting online on sari draping techniques and watching indian movies
In the end its not that hard to drape it.
These days I do what my mother does, if shes planning on wearing a sari for a function, she'll take it out in the morning or the night before and do the plaits and then pin them with a few safety pins.
That way when its time to get ready, its all done all you gotta do is wrap it around yourself.

Ditto.
Its so much more difficult to wrap a sewn sari.
Re: Wraping Sari
On my sister's valima, all the girls wore sarees. I didnt know how to do mine so my sister's SIL did mine for me. I pinned it but it was so difficult to manage! It was the first time I had ever worn one so in all honesty I was uncomfortable too.
On my last Eid, I got a really pretty Satya Paul sari as a gift and Im thinking of getting a belt put in until I can train myself to walk in them.
Can you even tell though if they're sewn or not?
Re: Wraping Sari

I do the folds myself. try youtube they have tutorials.it really didnt help me until i saw someone do it on mine and practiced how to make the plates it gets easier as u do it. trust me

Yes you most definetly can tell if a sari is stitched, the sari just doesnt fall the same way as compared to what you put on yourself. Plus its such a hassle to iron it and store a stitched sari.
ok my experience is to stop being lazy and learn how to wrap a saree you’ll be grateful.
you can wear a “ready made” sari however if you wear a silky petticoat the sari material will slide up on your waist and your petticoat will show underneath. trust me i know, my aunt sent me one from pakistan (i guess she thought i didn’t knowhow to wrap) anyhow i was at a wedding dancing away and realized it kept coming higher and higher n my waist and my petticoat kept showing. THAT WAS SO ANNOYING!
also pleats go to different sides regarding if you wear it bengali style or gujurati style. it’s nice to have the option. Wedding bridal sarees, Designer lehengas sarees, Salwar kameez, Embroidered sarees salwar kameez, Bridal wedding lehengas, Traditional sarees lehngas from India not only has a great reliable website to order clothing from but they have videos. over the summer i went to a valima and wrapped my sari mermaid style…
also sometimes your pallu is too long if you get a ready made sari. my aunt sent one from back home and the pallu was so long i had to wrap it around my shoulders (which did look hella aunty like) or else it would drag on the floor. it’s important that if you get one that they measure your length appropriately …you dont want to be dragging a sari do you?
I think these ready made saris don’t show off the figure so well either it falls as a straight skirt moreso than when you learn how to wrap and you get the material to be a bit more slim around teh hips.
