the metro rail link connecting Delhi City Centre to the Indira Gandhi International Airport has started service. now, international as well as domestic passengers can take the 18 min 23 km journey with ease and comfort. passengers will be able to check-in their baggage at the metro station and it will be taken directly to the aircraft…hassle free ride…congrat india!

now they are building another line from gurgoann to the airport as well and other cities like bangalore etc are working on their own

there was this subway system in Kolkatta and it was the best until Delhi Metro. i'm looking forward to my next trip to Delhi in Sept iA and i will take train to the train station to commect me to the Rajdhani Express to take me to Allahabad...a seamless travel from Toronto to Allahabad :D

20 min on the train, and
6 hrs and 40 min to Allahabad

That’s an amazing operational model :k: - would be very interesting to see how they’ve operationally integrated airport security standards and check-in procedures with multiple remote locations (metro station origins for passengers). Sounds quite impressive indeed.

thats what i was also wundering how they can keep baggage secured from the time it leaves u at the starting train station and the aircraft…there must be a way because passengers are currently checking in their bags at train stations…may be they re-screen bags at the airport in the absence of the passengers like they do with connecting baggage at present.

Awesome :k: I will also be flying into Delhi this summer, and will definitely try to experience this.
Have previously seen something similar with Hong Kong Metro & Seoul Metro, and that worked seamlessly. Don’t know if Delhi Metro has used that as its model though.

Well they already have integrated delhi metro feeder busses with rest of the metro. you only buy one ticket at the feeder bus and it works with metro as well.
Since delhi airport is very expensive to rent a kiosk at , delhi metro will offer office space at cheaper rate to the airlines and all you will have to do is show up with your luggage and you can check in your stuff and get your boarding pass at the station. they have special coaches to carry your luggage in the train. In the train they also have moniters which show the real time status of flights.
here is a luggage coach which is supposedly automated to load and unload the luggage.

**Firstly, yes it is an error on my part…i was so excited that i mentioned Metro Link…and thanx for the luggage van…its amazingly cheap @ Rs. 100] to be taken to and from the airport to ur destination…i love the integration. i wish we had a FREE transfer to Allahad in First AC lol 
just kidding…rail fares in india is already so low…did u know that it costs only Rs. 2100 [Canadian $45] from Delhi to Allahabad [640 kms] in First AC.
P.S: do u have any info on Super AC class that Ms. Mamta Banerjee announced in her 2011 Railway Budget? i wunder what that class of service wud look like and what extras wud be thrown in :)**

oh i see...nice city...i LOVE the Pink City :) there is a shatabdi Express from Delhi to Jaipur and its a great ride. only Rs. 970 in First AC...it takes 4 hours and 50 min. do u fly to Delhi out of Chicago?

Take rajasthan roadways luxury bus instead from delhi to jaipur. it starts from bikaner house.
