Say, for example, you heard through a mutual friend that your ex was getting married. Would you want to know to whom? Or would you prefer the past stay in the past and nothing about them be shared with you?

I think its natural that people want to know about the persons they have a relationship in past. If anything / news comes in your way its ok, but trying to spy on someone and want to know each and everything about them means you didn’t move on. So I would personally opt for being detached to the possible extent.
