Would You trade Shaq?

If you were the Lakers GM, would you?

What would you be looking for in return? Any realistic trade possibilities that you have heard and would accept?

Yes I would. I wouldn't want a guy who wants to get traded in my team. They are talks about Shaq being traded with Dallas' superstars. Let's see.

Shaq is getting greedier. He is already making close to $30 million a year and wants a contract extension with a raise. That isnt going to happen because he is 32 and his stock is always going to go downhill from here onwards. On top of that his health is marred by the toe/knee injuries/surgeries. He has shown up at taining camp, overweight for the past few seasons and expected to get in shape during the season. He is not as dominant as he once was. Trading him would free up a lot of money for Lakers which can be used to bring in young talent. Infact, Shaq’s salara can bring in the entire starting lineup of Detroit Pistons :hehe:

Jerru Buss is a businessman and he has dealt with big time names in the past like Magic Johnson, Jerry West, etc. He knows what he is doing when his GM says that he would entertain bids from other teams to trade Shaq.

As I understand it, Shaq can opt out of his contract with the Lakers after next season. If the Lakers can't or don't want to sign him to a new deal this off-season, they've got to trade him now or risk getting absolutely nothing for him after next season.

The problem is that anyone trading for him won't give up any superstars now unless Shaq would sign a long term deal with them.

The Lakers should be looking to turn into the running, gunning SHOWTIME version if they get rid of Shaq. From New Jersey, the Lakers might be able to get a guy like Kenyon Martin and someone else. NJ would be pretty strong with Kidd at point and Shaq.

Rumor I've heard on Dallas is that Nowitzke is the key guy the Lakers would want. But Dallas would have to change their whole style of play if they bring in Shaq.

Shaq was most likely to get traded to Dallas. But Dallas said that their superstar Nowitzki was off limits on the trade, and LA said that they won’t trade Shaq to Dallas if they don’t get Nowitzki. :smack2:
Dang I wanted Shaq to come to my city Dallas.

I would trade Shaq in a flash. you can get younger rising stars who will be lakers assets for a longer term, and they will not have the nakhras that Shaq has.

nakhras = high maintanance demands etc

^ exactly
Shaq is getting old... the meaness that he had that other ppl were so afraid of has been wiped out... ppl still fear him, but teams have found a way to beat them around him...
i would def. trade shaq... try to get some young blood with some experienec in... I believe Kobe can lead a team better... and they need someone to take the pressure off of him during crunch time... as we have seen proven by Detroit... gang up on kobe and let shaq score, and you'll win.
so they need someone else who can be a threat to defences. not old ppl like payton, malone or shaq... they need smart players...

Oyee...stop all of you with this non-sense of Shaq getting old. He can still dominate the game. All the layups, open shots Lakes get is all because of Shaq's presence. Nobody can replace the Diesel 'cause Nobody ever has and will.

MyVoice, what makes you think K-Mart will give us the 80's version of Showtime? Please, keep the ideas/rumors to yourself.

5Abi, that's one thing. I didn't know that Shaq would earn 121 mil (including extension) in 3 years. I love Shaq but that's alot of money. Lakes are already over salary cap room; and because of Shobe's worth, Lakes don't get hot guys from the FA.

You see, here comes the problem when Mitch can't handle the situation. Now, the phone calls are ringing 24/7, and he can't seem to get out of from this mess. Kupchak should have talked to Shaq to take less money. When Shaq got the extension in 02, it wasn't the nice experience with him.
