Would you still be motivated...

Just suppose, you work in an Organization where you give your 100%,and also, your hard work & sincerity are being appreciated & praised by your seniors & Managament but only through verbally, but you aren’t given any increment or anything of that sort even after doing excellent job,so much so that, when you ask the Management for a pay raise, they would give you the reason of current financial situation not being so good, etc & ask you to wait without making it clear how long more you have to wait, would you still be motivated to continue to give your 100%,or would you become kind of demotivated?

Re: Would you still be motivated...

Well you wl have to make a decision here which is either you continue on with the job without the pay increase or you quite. If you choose the first option then you ought to give it your 100% but if you can't do it then quite.

It is all depend on what u r getting from the job.

I know someone who gone through same situation in one of the IT major.

Since her superior could not help on her pay, but they gave her so many opportunities to take care higher level of responsibilities that put her on par with senior managers.

She is happy with her situation.

Also another person started as co ordinator at mid level IT distribution company but went beyond his call of duty.

Helping company is sales making his name in the industry today he is heading intel for that country.

Moral of the story money is not matter if the company is willing to open more learning opportunity for you.

Money talks bull**** walks. Is no one getting any raise? And if there are no raises as some sort of policy for the year, what other retention incentives are being given to keep high performers around. Or if nothing else, could the person be officially promoted, with the overlapping pay levels in adjacent levels, you can be officially promoted without the immediate pay raise but that to become the case next fiscal year.

I understand if you are in company A and as a reward they give you more exposure or responsibilities and not more money, and the person went to company B the exposure and juicy projects are less and money more than you have to really weigh the dollar value of that exposure.

However, in real world more than likely if you are really better than what the title on your business card says, you can go to a better paying role with similar level of exposure (some depends on company size difference though)

The sad reality is that to be at a junior level but getting higher exposure and experience is only good for the next role, in itself it is okay short term but more than 9-18 months max, it's time to walk and go to a place which will reward you appropriately for your skills and contribution.

Re: Would you still be motivated...

I agree with you this is exact plan, she is even told by her boss that she should move on after a year or two to get now experience. And at her new job she would be able to cash all these.
