Supposing you found a gold chain lying on the road side , you pick it up and look around to see if you can spot the owner , but fail to spot one … would you keep the chain? throw it back on the road? give it to the police? hand it to the nearest shopkeeper saying if anyone comes looking for it they should be handed it back .. etc ?
Re: Would you return it ...
Give it to the police. I once found a fiver on the bus and gave it to the bus driver, my dad told me off cos he was all 'the bus driver is going to keep it for himself.' I think 14 year old me did the right thing.
Re: Would you return it …
Milly , i think you did the right thing …
I once found a gold ring on the road and when i looked around I saw that was standing two steps away from a goldsmith’s shop .. I handed that ring over to the shopkeeper thinking who ever lost it might just return to the shop and ask them about the ring … later friends lectured me that why would you do that .. the shopkeeper will never give it back to the owner if they come asking , they might as well just resell it and make money off it !
But I still think i did the right thing , at least i dont feel guilty … though what i would change is , next time hand it to the police rather then the shopkeeper ![]()
Re: Would you return it ...
will try to find owner otherwise keep it to safest place like nearest shop so owner could track it back. :@:
Re: Would you return it …
Before shadi I used to live in a block of flats and one day i found £80 dropped at the entrance of the building .. I wrote a note that I have found some money , owner please contact me … the next hour I had recieved four people from different flats asking for the money !!! so I thanked god I hadnt written the amount there … So , I just asked the people how much they had lost , none could say the right amount ![]()
Eventually a week later a lady knocked at the door and said if it was £80 i found , it was her money …
gave her back her dolat immediately ..
Re: Would you return it ...
yes ive had the experience of finding a bus pass on the bus with credit cards and other cards in it... I too handed it to the bus driver who said he'd hand it into the bus depot... got home and dad said the same that I shouldn't have given it to the driver.... I was at collage at that time.
Re: Would you return it ...
I would leave it there, in case the owner comes looking for it. Else if some one else picks it up, its their own deeds.
Re: Would you return it ...
My conscience would never let me keep something like gold, i'd hand it in to a police station fo sho
Re: Would you return it ...
Well Gold is Haram for me and I dont really like bling anyway so its no good to me. I cant just hand it to anyone in case it's not thiers so I have only two options viable depending on where I am. Either hand it in to authorities like the police or if it was at a place like a railstation or bus depot then hand it to lost property. If I happen to be in the sort of country like Pakistan where not all Police are as astute then perhaps to hand it to charity is best option.
Re: Would you return it ...
i think handing it to the charity sounds like a much better thing to do ..
Re: Would you return it ...
Well I suppose so since it might well save a life or something like that. :)
Re: Would you return it ...

I would not touch it. If I were to touch it, it would be my responsibility to return it to the owner. If I leave it where it is, it's not my headache.
