A hug by its nature is platonic. It’s an action of comforting someone, of showing them they are not alone and you are with them. All in 5 seconds without words. Iss liye there are all those free hug campaigns

repeated / frequent hugs between a man and a woman [both naa-maHrams to each other] CAN always lead to something else…so, no hugs, no matter how how innocent one makes it out to be, are Halaal.
