If you feel that your cousin would make for a compatible partner…then other peoples’ preferences is not going to (should not) deter you from marrying them. Islam allows it. And if you already ARE married to your cousin…and it’s working…then really…what difference does it make whether someone else finds it acceptable or just plain weird/icky? It’s not going to have a bearing upon your marriage…and if it does (then you have deeper issues to deal with). It CAN make problems with in-laws messy since marriage would make them doubly related…but you can also get some pretty nasty drama in marriages that are not consanguineous.

It’s halal…and then to each his own…whatever suits the individuals involved.

I have personally seen many cousin marriages ruin multiple lives.....when their is an argument it seems to effect both families, not just the couple......and also I grew up with half of my male cousins and consider them my brothers.....the other half share different values and we really wouldn't be compatible

If he had all the qualities I was looking for it would be perfect. Unfortunately none of my cousins fulfill even the basic requirements of holding a education, so no it was not a reasonable option. But if perfect match was available it would have been easier due to our social dynamics which seem to be limited to family atmosphere. Hope all goes well....either way.

I think a new family will be a breath of fresh air right now.

I would not want an arranged cousin marriage, but if the two of us like each other and would make good life partners, then no problem.

Since it is halal, I have no problem with the concept.
However, someone I know just got married to her cousin, and both the mother of the groom, and the mother of the bride are sisters, as well as both their fathers are brothers, (and the 2 fathers are cousins of the 2 mothers). Did I mention this couple also grew up together in a joint family (as in the same house) and I just find that a bit too much. To each their own.

doctors say stay away from cousin marriages

so why are there more babies being born with defects in the western society, who dont marry their cousins....im assuming this is why docs advise this. jo allah ki marzi. if allah has said its ok to marry them, then its ok. of course its not compulsory, as so many desis think.

No i wouldnt, for medical reasons and also because i dont want to turn my family into my in laws.

But there are many cousin marriages in my family and i wish them all the best!
