Would you marry a Type 2 Diabetic?

Re: Would you marry a Type 2 Diabetic?

What if he makes no attempt to manage it?

Re: Would you marry a Type 2 Diabetic?

I'm a diabetic and I'd marry me. I'm quite a good catch. I can cook, I can clean, I have a degree and have my Grandfathers nice Pathan looks. So diabetes alone would never put me off someone because let's face it; someone can develop health complications AFTER marriage. They can be healthy as anything and become ill. Diabetes is something that can be controlled. It takes a bit of getting used to if you are used to a high sugar diet etc but that was never a problem for me as both my Grandparents are diabetic so I always walked on the side of caution. With all due respect finding a decent ristaa in the first place is hard enough; if the only issue you have is diabetes I would assume you have a few other options that tick all the boxes and don't have medical 'issues' they haven't declared.

Re: Would you marry a Type 2 Diabetic?

No, you're probably just unfamiliar with what it is. It's not cancer or MS, but unmanaged diabetes can be quite nasty.

I was diagnosed at 29. It is rare, but decreasingly so. When I went to a course on diabetes management, everyone thought I was an intern...they were all obese, and 50+.

Properly managed, and physically fit, you won't notice. Properly managed without exercise you're probably looking at someone with depleted energy levels. Long term risk is that he develops a heart condition at a young age. That could be fatal shortly thereafter.

Ask about his physical activities, if he's on meds. I think the only thing to beware of is someone who isn't the least interested in the changes in lifestyle that are required for proper management.

In the context of your dilemma, I hope you didn't come to that conclusion via his EKG report ;)

To answer your title question: Yes I would.
