Aliyish bruv in places like Karachi you need security ! Either keep a gun or have at least a guard protecting your house at night (at least) but i guess that only applies to Rich people? …
Well Alhamd , my family lives at a very secured place , like in ar block, we have iron barriers on every street , where two armed guards sit 24/7 , all the vehicles are listed , in night they won’t let any visitors in , without getting a verbal confirmation from the house , intended to visit .
All hawkers ( sabzi walay and others ) are listed in nearby police stations .
But still things happen , you know This is Karachi ! The town i used to miss like hell !
Some people feel the need, or have some for hunting. I think we should avoid having them at home because they could be misused, misfired, get into the wrong hands. There are serious implications.
My father had firearms in his house. So, I come from a family where firearm ownership was a part of my life. We kept firearms for both social and private reasons, such as, hunting, competition, collecting, investment and self protection. I live in the US now and I have several firearms in the home. The risk of owning and properly storing a firearm in a house is no greater than having a swimming pool in one's house, in my opinion.
The fear issue you have raised (I'd be scared) is common for people who have not owned firearms. Sometimes people get influenced by negative images they see in movies and the media. In my opinion, just like everyone who is involved with Islam is not a terrorist, every gun owner is not a potential accident waiting to happen. These fears are the result of unfamilarity.
would you get a license to carry a concealed weapon? because hey, if someone jumps you on the street, you can whip it out and save your gun-loving ass...
if guns meant security, afghanistan would have been the most secure nation on earth by now.

Does this mean, you want to live in the 7th century, before humans knew how to make guns? Time to fire up your time machine, I guess.
bob, not every invention has a place or utility in one's home. just because someone thinks owning a gun is a bad idea doesn't make them primitive. one could argue that feeling insecure due to not having weapons handy is a primitive trait - one that is the hallmark of an unstable and violent society.

We disagree. It is primitive thinking.
I am not sure about the connection between violent societies and guns. I believe that many human societies were quite violent prior to the invention of guns. so if you are suggesting that human societies became violent and unstable after guns were invented, then i would, respectfully, disagree.
What if your son or husband was on the National Olympic shooting team? What if you owned several acres of land and needed guns for pest control and harvesing the occassional partridge or quail on your land? What if the king of UAE had given you a jewel encrusted rare gun used by the Turkish Sultans? What if you were the descendant of a nobleman who possessed a firearm and you happen to inherit it? You would what, not allow it in your house and sell it off? Even if you did sell it, I would respect your decision. However, to suggest that others who may value such things be forbidden from possessing firearms and be held responsible for creating a violent society is going too far. I think this is what queer is suggesting. This is where I disagree with him. I believe law abiding, responsible members of society have the right to choose if they want to keep firearms in their homes or not.
Nik,
My older brother, was extremely careless with every thing. Once I was talking to may father, I saw his(brother’s) son chasing after other nephew with real pistol in his hand.
that was a small .22 silver color pistol. To every one It looked like a toy. I had seen it in my brother’s room. Still took like 30 sec before it occur to me that was real gun.
With out telling father, I ran after kid and grab it.
Guess what???
As I expected it had bullets in it too!!!
Bit in the chamber(ready to fire) BUT in mag. I had a big fight with my brother.
IT still scares me Cold. When I took training in canada about weapons I was so surprised That how it is a law that you can only store your weapons in cretin way even in you own house.
While carrying in car. bullets and gun can not be together. etc etc
I love Canada
