Would you help?

Do you help people who might be in random situations? Here are a few examples of situations:

1- Stranger asking for some money to buy a bus ticket, claiming they are in an emergency?

2- You see a person harassing or attacking another person in a public place?

3- You witness a terrible car accident on a busy road , would you help the people involved?

4- You witness a druggy or a drunk man lying faint on the roadside?

etc .. These kind of situations … how much would you be interested to help ?

Re: Would you help?

I have helped complete strangers in different ways, but I chicken out in confrontational situations :frowning:

Re: Would you help?

  1. Yes, I have given money before if someone said it was an emergency. You will never know but Allah knows your intention was to help so that’s all that matters to me.
  2. Yes. I’d tell them to stop and gather people to make sure others knew as well and we can all come together to stop the harassment.
  3. Yes, I’d pull over. We were all going for a trip when our family friend’s car got hit. They were right in front of us. It wasn’t safe for everyone to pull over but we did along with another family and stayed until the police/ambulance got there. We have a first aid kit in our car as well.
  4. I’d probably ask for help on this one because I’m terrified of drunk people. They are sometimes completely out of it and are capable of doing anything.

Re: Would you help?

Yes I alwayz do, except the last one.. I dont get close to addicts :disgust:

Re: Would you help?

I dont know why the police advise to not get involved in stark situations . I understand that it can be dangerous but one cant just become witness to a crime and not to anything about it

Re: Would you help?

You can help needy and helpless, else avoid it!!!

Re: Would you help?

Interesting. Lets see one by one:

1- Stranger asking for some money to buy a bus ticket, claiming they are in an emergency?

**Its a ‘may be’. There is a strong chance I’ll help. The only thing that’ll stop is getting the suspicion that the person is a druggy or professional beggar.
**

2- You see a person harassing or attacking another person in a public place?

**Definitely yes. Not that i’ll be fighting with anyone but will try to intervene someway. Its a difficult situation though and i dont blame those who prefer to stay quite on the side.
**
3- You witness a terrible car accident on a busy road , would you help the people involved?
200% yes. Though here, unlike Pakistan, you have a limitation to help other than calling 911. But wutever the way I can.

4- You witness a druggy or a drunk man lying faint on the roadside?
**Nah, thats where i’ll mind my own business. This category doesnt take my vote. Unfortunately see them all the time around train/subway stations or downtown. Might have give me some insensitivity.

Re: Would you help?

Yes where ever it is possible! remember maskeen aur Lachaar ki dua Allah SWT sunnta hai!

Re: Would you help?

What is maskeen?

Re: Would you help?

The word Maskeen is used in two ways.. One is for someone whose mother is not alive and the second is for someone who is poor and needs to be helped out.

Re: Would you help?

Thank you, Prince. Hope things are well with you.

Re: Would you help?

Do you help people who might be in random situations? Here are a few examples of situations:

**1- Stranger asking for some money to buy a bus ticket, claiming they are in an emergency? **

Absolutely, sharing is caring and if someone is in an emergency, I will go out of my way to do everything I can. As long as they don’t look dodgy, or seem like they’re about to do something shady.

**2- You see a person harassing or attacking another person in a public place? **

I’ll verbally try to calm the situation and tell the person to not harass the person, if they go to the next level, I would rather take a step back and call the police - unless extreme intervention is needed, in case of situations like stabbing etc, where someone’s life is in danger. If by attacking you mean verbally - as in it is a discriminatory or racist attack, then I’ll verbally attack the person back/try to defuse the situation and help the victim.

3- You witness a terrible car accident on a busy road, would you help the people involved?

I’ll call the ambulance, but I won’t get personally involved. First response teams are proper suited to handle injured people in an accident. Normal citizens, most of them, aren’t trained to do CPR, or handle the victim(s) properly, they can do more harm than good in the process. People might not know how to handle the injured neck for instance, and can cause more damage to the spine etc. Plus if it is a busy road, then stopping on the hard shoulder is a bad idea, or even on the road. It stops traffic, causes hindrance, and causes delays for the ambulance etc to reach the accident site. If I am on foot, on that busy road or street, I’ll again make sure that emergency teams are on their way, but apart from that there is nothing else I can do. Plus in Dubai it is banned to stop and help, or photograph that site, for the same reasons I typed.

4- You witness a druggy or a drunk man lying faint on the roadside? **

I will help the person, if they’ve just fainted, I’ll give them water and some money. If they’re seriously unconscious, or fell and suffered a concussion, I’ll call help.
