This might happen with me. But I can decide whether I want to have it on the same day or not. The reception/rukhsati/walimah will be next year Insha’Allah for the both of us as well.
Has anyone done this? Had their nikkah on the same day as another relative? How did it go?
Would you be willing to do this? Good idea? I have no clue what to think of this.

i wouldnt! just my personal opinion! i cannot share my same day w. someone. plus everyones gonna compare u to ur brothers wife..u know how ppl are....ohh which bride is prettier! bla bla bla ppl have no tact....good luck!

I wouldn't do it. Do it like a week apart, or at least a day or 2 apart. Same as above person said, you don't want to share your special day with anyone else. That and the fact that if your all dolled up for your own nikkah, how would you enjoy your bro's nikkah. Definitely do it on a different day, so you can enjoy your own function, and then take part in your brother's function as well. Congrats!

Then I think I would be okay with it -- as long as you get to have a separate shindig in the future. But it also depends upon on how you get along with his bride.

I won't be bothered even if it was for sharing a wedding day with my brother's wife.. since I dun have a brother, I shall say I won't mind sharing the wedding day with my brother in law and his wife!!
It's not the day but the event itself that makes it special!

Our weddings are definately going to be different as they will take place in different cities altogether, but I am just uncertain about the nikkah.
My rishtas side prefers it done in his state, but I dont know if we will be going there, if we are it will not be an issue. If we do it in my home state, then I have to decide to have it with my brother or not.

I dont see any problems with having an event the same day.
we talk about waste etc all the time, why not have the event one time so you dont have to spend money on the location the food and all.
do seperate small nikah ceremonies and a joint reception and the money you save, put it towards downpayment for a house or kids college fund.

We cant have the reception in the same place because my rishta's side is where my reception will take place due to his extended family being there, and my brother is most likely going to have his in the city of his fiancee due to her extended family being there. Our side of the family is relatively small in the states and therefore we are trying to accomodate as many people as possible.
Not to mention, my brothers wedding is going to be traditional Pakistani style, whereas mine is going to be traditional Afghan.

i was given d choice to hve my weddin the same day as my fiancee's sister , even tho she is my cousin i refused i just dint wnt to share my special day wid ne one . n dis whole comparison wud mke her n me both feel uncomfortable coz even tho ppl may nt say it in a bad way everything is always compared.

comparisons are done whether the event is at the same time or later.

yeh it is but it is not that prominent bein compared later its not as bad as bein compared to each other on ur special day .

I've decided to have it on different days because I really want to be a participant at my brother's nikkah, Insha'Allah. Plus I am uncertain as to when mine will be at this point in time.
