Should people be allowed to eat their pets?
When I think about it, I am convinced we have a strange set of parameters as to when an animal can or cannot be considered food.
Consider the case of two sheep; one is given pet status and accorded a name.
The other gets no “name” and no “pet” status.
No money for guesssing which one is likely to end up on the BBQ.
Why should that be..?
Does the anthropomorphic principle of “naming” somehow delineate between the two animals..
I have a friend who raised a baby goat to maturity, played with it, took it on walks etc…and then ate it..
He said he was confortable with it, because he never gave it a name..
So, does giving an animal a “name” create a ethical distinction over which one should not step?
Does calling a baby lamb “Daisy” etc…save its skin…?
Re: Would you eat your pet?
Thats just you my friend :o I am perfectly fine with a BBQ of named sheep or unnamed, both taste as nice ![]()

Re: Would you eat your pet?
** In my humble view, it’s not the name of your pet that doesn’t let you eat it comfortably rather it is the affection that you do have for your pet.**
Re: Would you eat your pet?
^the more affection for the pet, the tastier it becomes ![]()

Re: Would you eat your pet?
Yes in the good ole USA................there are people who swallow Gold Fish Live.............pet or no pet!.....................
Re: Would you eat your pet?
never!..people who do dont have a heart..they r beasts i would say even animals r civilized than such people
Re: Would you eat your pet?
We should only eat our pets
Let me clarify ... we should raise every animal with the love and attention as if it were a pet and to eat it we should do so with loss and respect the sanctity of life. We should treat the meat as a gift and the soul of the animal as a friend. If this will not control our meat consumption then nothing will.
Re: Would you eat your pet?
I dont believe in feeding on what we have fed:hinna: its just so mean.I get emotionally attached

I guess you don't water your vegetable patch or give your greens any compost then?
Or perhaps you will never employ anyone either if you owned a business because surely managers feed off their hired staff. They give them jobs so they can feed and in turn they get work from them which is feeding off them.
I think you have walked over the nail-on-head of this issue without realising it. Life is verily interdependent so where do we draw the line?
Re: Would you eat your pet?
Interesting point to convince em. I think, I like you :o
Now, lets share the meat of our pets and eat :o

Re: Would you eat your pet?
mmmmmm food
pet or no pet!
Re: Would you eat your pet?
i think sum things r supposed to be eaten. like animals the ones that we consume they dont get attached to us emotionally. like the other animals that we pet like cats or dogs they actually get emotionaly attache dto human beings if sum1 asks me to eat my cat i wont. but goats, cows and chickens they dont get attached to human beings this is natural so i think its perfectly fine to eat the anmal u have raised for food.
btw who pets cows or goats anyways? they r live stock not our pets ![]()
Re: Would you eat your pet?
I eat my Bakra every year on Eid-ul-Azha and then I buy a new one.
Re: Would you eat your pet?
I think what people say about emotional attachment is the key point here. I don’t have a pet, but last year my sister bought a rabbit. Last night he licked my nose! So CUTE! But anyway, after I met him I fell totally in love with him. This then extended to affection for things rabbity, which meant that I could never again even contemplate eating rabbit (I’ve never done it, but used to think I would like to try it, but now no longer).
Re: Would you eat your pet?
My cousins in Pakistan had a cooker who used to chase visitors like a dog. When she told us, we didn't believe her. My brother teased the cooker and then he really did chase my brother around like a dog would chase someone. Anyway, that cooker was like a pet, they also had chickens, raised like a pet. Living on the roof, sometimes coming down in some rooms. But they were raised more like pets than stock. Nevertheless, when meat was needed for food, they were slaughtered and nobody really thought about it.
But when you think about it, plants are raised by people too, and vegetables, some people love their vegetables and plants dearly, they even say veggies and plants feel pain. Yet less people have a problem with eating veggies than eating animals.
Personally, I don't have a problem eating veggies or animals. I never was a vegetarian and never could properly take care of any kind of plant or vegetable.
Re: Would you eat your pet?
I used to have pet snails. Hmmmmm, would I eat them? Escargot is not halal anyways, lol.
But on a more serious note.....No, I think it is WRONG to gobble up your pet Fluffy or Sparky or** Fido** or Cuddles or** Bubbles** etc.
Its one thing to eat an animal that you are breeding/raising and have no emotional attachment to......for example, a farmer might cook and eat his own chickens. But it becomes disturbing to eat a "pet" that one has an emotional connection with.
