I simply think you should be honest and straighforward. Joint family is not for everyone (atleast not for me). I would feel terrible if I pretend it didn't bother me and cause issues for everyone later on to the point of upsetting my husband and his mother.
It's so important to discuss these issues PRIOR to marraige. I know it can be tough in arranged situations when there isn't much interaction but it can still be done indirectly.
