No. While in college, I was asked out by desi and non desi guys who were not Muslim, and they were good, decent guys by all counts, but I never explored any of those possibilities because I had already seen what had happened in the family when my elder sister married a non Muslim American. It's a road is felt was best left untraveled.

What happened was the guys was made to "convert" to Islam, change his name to a Muslim one just to keep my parents happy and in the end, they divorced after just 5 years of marriage.
I don't believe in compulsion. If I'm not willing to change my faith for someone, how can I expect someone else to unless it's from their own free will?
Let me add, I have see PLENTY of inter religious couples where one partner accepted Islam whole heatedly and those marriages are thriving!!!

I wouldn't date someone who I couldn't marry. It would be a waste off time for both people. And people who have converted for Islam forget all about it once they're married. But that's what I've seen and it maybe different elsewhere. Plus I'd like to marry someone who's in my culture and religion.

Through a mutual friend, believe me I was totally clueless then I didn't even know where/what Pakistan was.
He was the complete opposite of what I was comfortable with or what I knew. I learned a lot and so did he.

Me and my bf started dating 6 years ago - I'm Pakistani and he's Bengali. We both thought our parents wouldn't like it but neither cared once we told them so we're happy.
My friends date people they literally can't marry under any circumstance (their parents will poop bricks if they do). I'm not sure what this does for them. One of my bffs is involved with a gora Jew and the other with a gora Christian.. but they're both actively looking for rishtas without their SOs even knowing.

wow. i wonder how they manage their emotions and mental stability. dating someone else but actively awaiting rishtas. if a proposal comes along, they get married to that guy who wouldnt know about their past. and ditch the bf... shudder to think about the consequences and what if bfs threaten to speak to the husband/family etc.

Not really.
Its not about regretting or wasting mine or his time. Its more about me being aware of where that thin line in my religion and family goes.

No way. I don't date and if I did it would never be with somebody I could not marry. I respect and love my parents enough not to defy what they want for me.
