I think she’s referring to the passing down of culture. Person A, who is African, has children from a previous marriage. Persona A marries Person B, who is Indian. As person B will be helping raise Person A’s children, it is likely that the children will pick up some bits and bobs of Person B’s Indian culture (i.e. fondness for Indian cooking), even though they are not Indian, by virtue of constantly being around Person B.
That said, I think culture is quite different and separate from ethnicity/race. I’m not sure if culture is taken into account in terms of ancestry as culture is not a tangible, physical trait.
