Would you consider the following as a possible solution to the Kashmir problem?

Considering the current situation, I think the best option is to divide the Indian state of J&K into 3 parts, Let Jammu & Ladakh become independent states within the Indian Union. All Kashmiri’s including those in POK should be issued ID cards by a United Nations tribunal after ensuring they are ethnically Kashmirs and stating their current domicile, then all Kashmiris with UN issued ID cards should be allowed unrestricted travel with the right to live and work anywhere in Kashmir whether part of IOK or POK with free border trade and use of either Indian or Pakistani currency throughout the Kashmir region.

The UN issued ID cards detailing their current domicile is important as only those Kashmiri’s who are the current residents of IOK and their children will be permitted unrestricted travel, living and employment opportunities in the rest of India, and the Kashmiri’s from the current Pakistani side will need to secure a near impossible to obtain visa to travel anywhere in India outside the borders of the revised Kashmir. We definitely don’t want the POK Kashmiri’s coming anywhere in the rest of India.

Hopefully this should lead to peace in the region. This status should be maintained for 50 to 100 years and then a referendum should be carried out by the UN in the whole of Kashmir giving them an opportunity to either vote for full integration with Pakistan or India or full independence.

Re: Would you consider the following as a possible solution to the Kashmir problem?

after reading up on the "new world order" all this talk seems pretty useless

Re: Would you consider the following as a possible solution to the Kashmir problem?

No not acceptable at all. The only acceptable solution is letting the Kashmiri people vote as is their basic human right to their own self-determination. Nobody but the Kashmiri people have the right to decide their own fates.

Sure CM, the end result is that they vote, but when there has been peace for quite a while, and conditions are right and conducive for a peaceful referendum as was made in Canada to the province of Quebec.

Re: Would you consider the following as a possible solution to the Kashmir problem?

The end result does not occur in your example because you already divided up Kashmir. Kashmir is to united and allowed to vote. As Nehru stated.

Re: Would you consider the following as a possible solution to the Kashmir problem?

please make it clear if it is a kashmiri strugle or another islamic strugle.....

Its a Kashmiri strugle and everyone who lives in Kashmir.
Since the majority in Kashmir are Muslims so it becomes inescapably problem for all Muslim :)

Its only a matter of time that Kashmir will be free i am not worried about that
how many innocent people can indian army kill!!!

Re: Would you consider the following as a possible solution to the Kashmir problem?

CM, the problem is in Kashmir, not in Jammu or Ladakh, its time we get realistic and see what is the way forward rather than what might have been. If there is to be a resolution to this matter we have to look ahead. If you insist on the whole of Kashmir, then it has to also include the areas of Gilgit, and the parts ceded to China. We all know thats not going to happen, so then whats the next best way forward.

Re: Would you consider the following as a possible solution to the Kashmir problem?

bittu, its basically a Kashmir issue, but I guess since most (not all) Kashmiri's are Muslim, it may also be construed to be a Muslim issue (however I am Muslim, and I do not think it so, but then again thats my personal opinion, and I will not let that prejudice me)

Adaab, well said!!

no friend...there is always a difference between a theocratic fanatic strugle and freedom strugle....may i remind you that the first target of this strugle were ethnic non-muslim kashmiris....

There is only one solution
and that is freedom of Kashimiris
Let the Kashmiris decide what they want
thats what your gandhi ji did wish and you are not good listeners i think
you only listen to what is in your own interest and not what mr Gandhi tells you to do.
Very very selfish i would say.

You guys can waste as much bandwith on this as you want, but nothing will change. India cannot allow itself be bitten to pieces.
