Not sure if this is in the correct forum but i had a general question i wanted to ask u.
A couple of my friends in London are thinking of setting up a website to sell mithai. They think that this will be very popular for ppl who don’t live near a good mithai shop. For example it may not be convienient to buy good mithai in Asian communities outside of London.
If you could buy it from a website and get next day delivery so you knew it was fresh, would you try it?
Any replies good or bad would be appreiciated. Thanks:)

yes.
as ask99 mentioned in US there are ppl who order mithai from webshops.
I am lucky to be in chicago, ut my friends and family who are in smaller cities have ordered from tahoora many times.
Dependng on comparative quality and price, and how far ppl are from mithai places..that may be the clincher
I haven't had a chance to buy mithai online for myself, so won't know. I have bought online mithai gifts for friends and relatives who live back in Pakistan, but then I knew that it will be mithai from a reputed shop (e.g. Niralla etc) so while it was pricey but a safe bet in terms of quality.
Your pals business model may work, though, especially if you market it more as a gift idea rather than for people to buy for themselves. I am sure there are a few ppl who'd buy for themselves as an indulgence, but the bulk of business will come from gift-givers and around important occasions e.g. eid, weddings, birthdays etc.
It all depends on the Mithai shop itself. Like ppl mentioned, Tahoora in Chicago is excellent. So even if you order online, they have such high volume sales, that you get the same quality and freshness delivered to you.
However, some one once sent me mithai from a store in NY and it was quite sub-standard.
So the sales and success they will have will depend upon the quality of the mithai.
I love Qalaqand, barfee, and besan ladoo...
All bad for the Cholestrol meter....doh...
Thank you for ur responses. I didnt realise in the states it was sold online. There is Ambala in London but the quality has really gone downhill over the years. My friends actually have a chain of the Nirala one from Pakistan. Its so fresh and good even tho it is a heart attack on a plate. Plus it contains pure vegetarian ingredients so hindus can have it as well. Their shops r doing really well in London but they were thinking of doing it as an online gift ordering thing-like for parties, weddings etc. Esp as ppl up north who dont have mithai shops like Nirala near them have actually said to them that if they had it online, lots of ppl would order from them. But it would b a total gift ordering thing. Thanks for ur feedback!
i live up north and iv nt heard of nirala. here we have delhi, ambala and sanam.
as long as the price of postage and packaging was nt too high id buy mithai online
