Would you be a vegetarian if you had to...?

Do you think you would be a vegetarian if you had to slaughter animals with your own hands before eating/cooking the meat? I’m not talking about fish here. I am talking cows, goats, lamb, etc.

I still remember the time I was invited to an Eid dinner at parents friends house. I played with the goat the whole day only to be served dinner later and told thats the goat I was playing with earlier. the horror

I was put off of meat for a few days.

So would you? Thanks.

i don't think so .. but then i don't have the guts to slaughter an animal ... i will probably shut my eyes or leave the place if someone has to slaughter it ... just don't do it in front of me .... :p

Re: Would you be a vegetarian if you had to…?

well yestarday i slaughter a bakra myself and was not a problem anyways.

Munni: It would be too damn difficult to continue eating non-veg in that situation. You see, once I witnessed this Qurbaani(Zibah) procedure and I nearly fainted seeing all that blood. I stopped eating all together for like 3 days.

I love non-veg. I can't think of a life without chicken tandoori, chicken biryani etc, so I try my best to not witness any such slaughtering.
Not that I care for animals etc.. animals( except cats) can go throw themselves off a cliff for all I care..but it is that blood and gore which sends shivers down my spine.

I once went to a farm where they were cutting the crops...I could not eat vegetables for weeks after that.

I wonder if people stop drinking water after witnessing a water supply cut off too?

Femme, the reasons for not drinking or eating may be different in such a case. It's hard for a desi to enter a bathroom without running water.

Well it's probably easier said than done but after doing it a few times you'd probably get de-sensitised to it I would think. I wouldn't want to give up meat so no I wouldn't become a veggie.

I don't know maybe I am not as sensitive, I never thought of meat as an animal I always thought of it as food.

I’d start with a chicken, and then I would imagine that after the forst time, the rest of the times would be easier.

I’d work my way up fro there. Chicken, then goat, then lamb, sheep and finally cow. :yummy:

I don’t eat meat waisay bhi so it doesn’t matter. And yeah I don’t like vegetable either. Vege is good in Chinese though but in other things, NO. Especially in Bakra Eid its very difficult for me to eat anything seriously, except daal or chicken. I know it sounds funny but am just like that :-/

when i was a kid, we used to feed the ‘bakra’ a day before eid, thinking that he will get more healthier and we will get more meat out of it on eid :hehe:

In that case men are food too :D (well for me atleast)

in answer to your question...I'd be vegeterian...don't think I could bear to cut up a live creature..

BTW paki maryam..after the lil fella has been all chopped up all you get to see IS thl meat so u don't think of it as an animal...Munni is talkin in terms of actually killing an animal with ur own hands and then eating it...

I love reading between the lines in your posts… :hehe:
