Then I guess it is also unfair that muslims are deprived of bacon sammiches and booze, Allah taala sure didn't know what He was talking about when He told us not to reveal "normal regular skin".

Re: Would you allow your daughters...
^ you see.......in modern connotation of the word as understood in the western world.......islam is sexist .........
Re: Would you allow your daughters...
alcohol and meat-consumption are totally irrelevant here. Being involved in these activities as a child boosts your confidence and helps you explore your personality. I think it would give you a healthier perspective on life. Not to forget, it teaches people how to deal with difficult situations and work with others. And last but not least, it teaches you how to communicate and present yourself--something our massom desi girls lack.
but ofcourse, at the end it all depends on whether you even value these qualities in a girl. most desis fear this in a girl. so, you see...
It's kinda sad how many desi girls here (not GS) really have no personality of their own. oh well.
Re: Would you allow your daughters...
It isn't irrelevant, I am responding to those who said there's nothing wrong with wearing unislamic clothing for the sake of sports/other activities. Did you also not say that you dislike selective hijabis? There may be ambiguity in the Quran about the hijab but there is none about the dress code. Your legs are supposed to be covered down to your ankles and whatever you wear cannot reveal your figure (so tights and short skirts isn't very islamic either). No ifs or buts about it. But if people want to do it, sure go ahead, but don't justify it which is what bothers me, otherwise I couldn't care less.
I wasn't responding to those who said there's nothing wrong with sports since I myself said that. The only thing different I'm saying is that you don't need to wear chaddis to do sports. Simple.

i completely agree. but these activities can be carried out with out wearing the said clothes.
and they don't even have to be only sports...there are other things girls [and guys] can get involved in. my point is that don't limit your kids with your desi ideals of what a girl is/should be like.

Exactly, totally agree.
Re: Would you allow your daughters...
^exactly my point, everyone assumes it to be a negative thing automatically. :) if this is how you conceive and present the idea of empowering desi girls--then no wonder desi mentality just won't change.
Re: Would you allow your daughters...
modestlyactive.com ???
what is modest about it?
Re: Would you allow your daughters…
We have female swimmers, surfers, boxers, runners, gymnasts, soccer/basket ball players etc etc…
The purpose of sharing these pics wasn’t to impose hijab on anyone whatsoever, the purpose was to show those who think religion will somehow deprive your girls of these opportunities that there’s actually nothing stopping them from aiming high and achieving high. Some of these must be complete fashion disasters but this isn’t a catwalk this is serious sports. So as I said in my first post, I am not at all worried about my daughters not being able to get involved in sports.
Re: Would you allow your daughters...
I believe men and women both are not allowed to eat pork or consume alcohol in islam....or is it gender based also??? I did not bring in religion nor did I "justify" my choice using religion. I simply stated that I won't have any sort of double standards raising MY kids.
And leggings arn't allowed, tights arent allowed and tight fitting clothes arent allowed so may I ask what would be "Islamic" dress code for a surfer, swimmer, gymnast etc?? Only a very loose fitting outfit truly covers a female body(not practical for any kind of sport) and even that will stick to body in water sports.
Re: Would you allow your daughters...
I wore trousers and a loose top - not hugely baggy, but enough to cover up. I did have short sleeves slightly above the elbow, but that is about it. I participated in all sorts of sports - up until 18, be it basketball, tennis, rounders, cricket, running (track), and gymnastics, to climbing that horrid rope.
Basically it didn't hold me back, and it taught me to keep active as part of my lifestyle, I regulary run on the treadmill at home and do yoga. Exercise is a essential part of life and everyone should partake in it.
As for swimming I did miss out on this - because of the whole costume thing. However I would like my daughters to learn, as swimming may be required at some point in their life. The could end up saving someones life! But again - I would only allow this in a all girls setting. I wonder if you are allowed to wear a surfers outfit and go swimming? hehe.
Re: Would you allow your daughters...
I would be ok. They need to to mix in with the crowd. Girls should not be deprived of oppurtunities.
Sport is a activity which requires a level of dressing down.
On the other hand girls also have the need to appear attractive occasionally in order to get attention from the opposite sex.
Modern women are excelling and competing with men in many fields where sport is one of them.
We cant keep girls locked up for ever and like men, grown females should be given freedom in order for them to pursue thier goals and find thier own paths.
