Would you allow your daughters...

Would you allow your daughter(s) to participate in sports where the uniform consisted of clothes that reveal skin, eg. soccer shorts, bathing suit, etc.
Would you discourage them from participating in such spots?

Re: Would you allow your daughters…

If it’s a women’s only, indoor sports club, then i will not have any problems :k:

Forgot to mention, even if it’s all women, i will not want my daughter(s) to wear super tight or super short sports cloths.
I.e. in case of swimming: no bikini and such garments allowed.

Re: Would you allow your daughters...

Tough call..especially swimming. I really don't know what the right thing to do is.

But I personally find it very sad that girls can't even play sports due to dress code restrictions. I don't play any sports and I've always wished that my parents had enrolled me in something, anything when I was a kid. I think it really boosts a child's confidence level. They didn't do it, not for the dress code, but just because the idea never really struck them.

Re: Would you allow your daughters...

no chance they will ever have such a bent. We both are super duper simple and ordinary people. No sports etc never. Even if chances ever occur, and they have talent enough for participation, I will have dress concern. Wouldnt ever want my daughters be an object of an evil gaze. (reminds me of someone's blog some time back on sania mirza and her body movements, uggh.)

Re: Would you allow your daughters...

In-terms of participating in sports, where she will be playing games and such, if she can Islamify the uniform, then that's fine. Can't do much with a bathing suit, so no swimming.

Re: Would you allow your daughters...

In answer to the question I would never discourage them from taking sports! I would simply make them change what they're wearing. I played netball and hockey throughout high school and whilst the other girls wore skirts, I just wore tracksuit bottoms. Granted it looked a bit odd, but since I was an alright player and there were other Muslim girls doing the same- it wasn't a big deal. The only sport that would have this problem is swimming, but nowadays there's plenty of other swim suit options available. My friends and I sometimes go to the ladies only swimming session in our local gym and we just wear leggings with a long sports top and it works fine.

But no I would never ever discourage them from sport I would actually actively push for it. It's one of the best things you can do in your childhood and it definitely helps you in terms of teamwork skills, motivation, discipline etc etc. PLUS most importantly, kids nowadays need to get active!!!! Watching tv / playing computer games all day is not healthy!

Re: Would you allow your daughters...

Ok, this thread is not about sports clubs where you can choose an all women's club, in that case i agree with Gaia and mirage.

Re: Would you allow your daughters...

^ What about in school? If it's part of the curriculum? I just think rather than discouraging the sport itself, parents should make the effort to change the uniform, like go in to talk to the teacher or something..

Re: Would you allow your daughters...

In school, like you they can wear long leggings and long sport tops during gym.
Just like i used to wear :)

Re: Would you allow your daughters…

:k:

where there’s a will there’s a way

Re: Would you allow your daughters…

^Ya I know about those, but in the name of fashion, so many rules are being broken

Re: Would you allow your daughters...

no sports that require them wear sania mirza type outfits.. it's such a shame our muslim families in Britain encouraging their daughters to go swimming in swimming costumes which !!! bus Allah maf kare!! then they come home and debate over that's good in Islam and that's bad in Islam ..

Re: Would you allow your daughters…

Then there are women who wear blouses which reveal their guts and backs and their cleavages and then they are concerned about their daughters sports uniforms. :smack:

Re: Would you allow your daughters…

^u womahater

Re: Would you allow your daughters...

Swimming is obviously something that can save a person's life, if u have a problem with your daughter wearing a swimsuit please still at least try and make sure she can learn it wearing something else or else learn in private rather than make her miss out completely..

Regarding other sports, I don't think those mini games skirts look odd over tracksuit bottoms at all, at my school most of us used to wear our kit that way during the winter months :D

I don't really have a strong opinion on how my future daughters choose to wear their sports kit, they might end up going to all-girls schools like I did but even if they didn't it's not something that really bothers me.. I reckon they'd prob have to wear skirts as their 'regular' uniforms anyway (we never had an option for trousers where I went either)..

Re: Would you allow your daughters...

no....my parents didnt allow it for me and i will not allow it for my daughters...

however if their father knows how to swim they can learn at home ... but i wud still expect they wear appropriate clothing (i.e. below the knee spandex shorts, and shirt) but no

Re: Would you allow your daughters...

I was pretty active in school, played a tonne of badminton aside from the regular PE classes (which involved a bunch of different activities from dancing to gymnastics to soccer) and I never had to wear revealing clothes. So I'm not at all worried about my daughters not being able to get involved in sports because of religious reasons. Who says you have to wear chaddis to do sports?

Re: Would you allow your daughters...

ahhhhhhh depends on where shes playing.

now i am not going to let her wear chaddis and go in front of perverted men.but then girls are quite creepey these days=|

Re: Would you allow your daughters...

Its amazing that you did not ask - "would you allow your son ..." as Islamicly speaking, revealing your skin is as prohibited for boys as it is for girls. Its not that only girls are not allowed to wear swimming costume in public and guys are allowed to expose their bulges in short tights.
