i could be wrong here... but isn't changing the girls name at the time of nikha part of shia culture/religion? Some ladies in our family (who are suni) got married into shia families and they had to change their names.

and just out of curiosity, if "dushwari" means difficulty and problem, why did your family name you that? does "dushwari" have an alternate meaning ?

and lastly, generally speaking, if your fiance (or potential fiance) has a problem with your name... he could just give you a cute nick-name... rejecting the rishta just for the name seems trivial especially if they are satisfied with everything else.

Actually I must admit that if a person asks you to change your name before u marry him may start asking u so many unreasonable after u get married.

I'd take their request/demand as an alarming sign & would rather be on the safe side then delibrately putting myself in some prospective problem.

In some cases it is necessary to change name, for example in Saudi Arabia & Iran, Bandar is a common male name, now if Bander marries a pakistani woman & goes to live in Pakistan, I dont think he will have an easy life. In this case if a pakistani woman asks him for change of name then it is understandable.

So unless its a case like this with you, their request/demand is unreasonable.
