This reminds me of our last visit to Pakistan. you know how everyone copies cheap Indian dramas there. So shopkeepes starter calling their female customers "janoo" (I am talking 2006ish). So my wife was at this Tariq Road shoe shop and salesman goes "janoo baithoo tu sahi, koi jota pasand nahi aaaya", my wife was unaware of the sales tactic goes "excuse me?". Later on when she went to other shops she realized that every salesman was like that. disgusted with that, she almost lost the appetite for shopping on that trip...

being a guy it's lame pathetic, some friend calling my wife jani/darling .. even he is her best friend ever.

that's like crossing the line, you can't justify it. until you are way too modern and forget about the basic principals of morality, then that's another story.

One of my guy friend's (he's white) refers to me as "darling" all the time. He uses "darling" to talk to or refer to almost all girls who're friends with him. It doesn't bother me.

I have another male friend (he's desi)....at times he calls me "sweety" during our conversations. And no, it doesn't bother me.

On a few occassions, I have overheard my BF talk to his female friends and he'll call them "babe".....it's rare but it has happened a few times. And no, it doesn't bother me.
