What are currently the worst/most annoying trends in gaming nowadays IYO?

Here are some of mine:

  • Need to patch/update games after release
  • Constant pushes to connect to external profiles (Google+/Facebook etc)
  • Microtransactions
  • Pushing online play at the expense of local multiplayer
  • Lack of backward compatibility (XBox One/PS4)

Do Open world/sandbox games and repetitive generic fist person shooters count as trend? I've been waiting for these two trends to end for the past 15 years :D

DLC in and of itself isn't necessarily bad but you're right, the way it's implemented mostly now is annoying. Also, we could say that it overlaps with microtransactions to a certain point.

£20 3 hour long crappy dlc for destiny :/ and microtransaction is like a cancer.

Tell me about it. Anyway, in MKS units, that is only 9 kg for "3 hour long crappy dlc"

Yes, microtransactions are annoying but a little more passable in free to play games.
