Hiroshima and Nagasaki: Worst terror attacks in history
August 6 and August 9 will mark the 60th anniversaries of the US atomic-bomb attacks on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In Hiroshima, an estimated 80,000 people were killed in a split second. Some 13 square kilometres of the city was obliterated. By December, at least another 70,000 people had died from radiation and injuries.
Three days after Hiroshima’s destruction, the US dropped an A-bomb on Nagasaki, resulting in the deaths of at least 70,000 people before the year was out.
Since 1945, tens of thousands more residents of the two cities have continued to suffer and die from radiation-induced cancers, birth defects and still births.
… The 60th anniversaries will inevitably be marked by countless mass media commentaries and speeches repeating the 60-year-old mantra that there was no other choice but to use A-bombs in order to avoid a bitter, prolonged invasion of Japan.
On July 21, the British New Scientist magazine undermined this chorus when it reported that two historians had uncovered evidence revealing that “the US decision to drop atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki … was meant to kick-start the Cold War [against the Soviet Union, Washington’s war-time ally] rather than end the Second World War”. Peter Kuznick, director of the Nuclear Studies Institute at the American University in Washington stated that US President Harry Truman’s decision to blast the cities “was not just a war crime, it was a crime against humanity”.
Re: Worst terror attacks in history: Hiroshima and Nagasaki
This without a doubt was the worst thing that mankind could ever do and the US of A did it, they are down in history for such a cowardly attack on what they fully knew were large civillian populated cities!
Re: Worst terror attacks in history: Hiroshima and Nagasaki
I find it interesting that nobody cares that people are dying from those nuclear attacks. Rather someone who ordered those attacks was voted into power. Now the question I have is if someone nuked a US city, should the muslim world vote them into power?
Re: Worst terror attacks in history: Hiroshima and Nagasaki
they publish in advance to allow simpletons like you enough time to comprehend… hopefully by August 3rd you’ll have understood (thought i doubt it) what they’re saying…
Re: Worst terror attacks in history: Hiroshima and Nagasaki
** Correct** the same right wing idiots try to whitewash and joke about this cowardly and disgusting attack on heavily populated cities, they should be ashamed of themselves this happened decades ago yet it still brings back the horror of it all!
Re: Worst terror attacks in history: Hiroshima and Nagasaki
If only some Muslims could get over the bombings half as well as the Japanese, they too might live in some technologically advanced, economically viable, free and democratic countries. Oh well, carry on with your mission guys. Did some Islamo-fascist terrorists dismember some Muslim or non-Muslim women and children today in mosques, schools, marketplaces, or subways that you're trying to divert attention from?
Re: Worst terror attacks in history: Hiroshima and Nagasaki
So let’s all blame the americans becuase they happened to be technologically more advanced than the others and were able to do what any nation in their places would have done without a blink!!!
You think if the indian fleet (hypothetical) attacked the British armada and the British had their hands on such a bomb, theywould think twice before nuking our brown asses!!
Reverse the situation: if the moguls had in their possession such technology, you dont think they would think once before dropping it in 10 Downing street to halt the East India Company’s advance??
Re: Worst terror attacks in history: Hiroshima and Nagasaki
I shall remember that when Al Qaeda nuke a city to end the war on terror. Do share with us where you live. Maybe Al Qaeda will be nice and send you a nice present.
Done to end world war II? Negotiate. Read the latest out of japan on the matter. There is nice article on it on BBC. The Japanese it seems were ready. The americans however wanted to test their new play thing.
The Americans nuked two cities and the americans voted in a man for nuking two cities. Wow. What a record of humanity. Ranks right up there with americans supporting the rape of children
Re: Worst terror attacks in history: Hiroshima and Nagasaki
Odd isn't it then that they were negotiations. If they were not to surrender why negotiate. So if they are not going to be talks who are you gonna nuke? Mali?
