World's largest hotel next to Haram-al-Sharif

I just want to know what you religious people say about this

Saudis are building the world’s largest hotel next to Haram-al-Sharif which will dwarf the Mosque

Re: World's largest hotel next to Haram-al-Sharif

Is this the one opposite the Bin Dawood Shopping Centre? I think it was being built when we were there in 2005 and peple were saying that the rooms on the very top floor were going to cost millions as you could see into Haram Sharif from there!

IMO it's out of character with the rest of the surroundings and looks too commercial so close to the great mosque.....now in Madina sharif, it wouldn't look so out of character.........

Re: World’s largest hotel next to Haram-al-Sharif

Salam m2k,

I think there is no issue according to me, because its the saudi’s problem, Allaah is mentioned in the Quran you can do trade during the Hajj so that should be ok, unless they maintain the sanctity of the Holy place Makkah.
For me as a Muslim i am more bothered about my pilgrimage rather than those lofty buildings.

I feel its stupid enough to bicker over such small issues, and this topic has been beaten down to death and you have also been involved if my guess is right.

PS Can you give me the reference of this photo, thanks

Re: World's largest hotel next to Haram-al-Sharif

The developer will be donating the hotel to the Haram, and the hotel will technically be a part of the Haram, serving as its residence.

I was there two weeks ago, and i could hardly see any room for such massive development. The two small towers, housing a mall, closest to the Haram are ready and are already open.

A few feet from the two towers stands a small 3 start hotel, with land around it being excavated for work on the Abraj, leaving a very ugly look on the entire area, especially because it situated right between the Sheraton, the new Abraj al Bait,....and facing the Haram directly. You can tell the hotel's been there for a very long time, and hasnt given way to bigger brands.

Re: World's largest hotel next to Haram-al-Sharif

greed! the saudis greed will never cease to exist!

Re: World's largest hotel next to Haram-al-Sharif

I agree and if we have to leave the pakistanis/indians to handle what would they do.
Well we know how well they will first handle the situation, leave alone greed we know were are we standing.
Be rational.

Re: World's largest hotel next to Haram-al-Sharif

at least the pakistani are not building it!
it would prob fall over after 56 hours!!!

Re: World's largest hotel next to Haram-al-Sharif

I am talking about the greed part of it you have accused the saudis are we different so let us first be right then talk about others.

Re: World's largest hotel next to Haram-al-Sharif

of course we are the same.! if it was us...we would be the same!

Re: World's largest hotel next to Haram-al-Sharif

But probably Pakistanis in Saudi are building it.

Re: World's largest hotel next to Haram-al-Sharif

indeed they prob are...

The mule work is done by the pakistanis....they prob arent overseeing the project!!!

Re: World's largest hotel next to Haram-al-Sharif

^^ the overseeing of the project is done by europeans and north americans

there are many thousands of europeans and north americans in makkah overseeing projects

Re: World's largest hotel next to Haram-al-Sharif

Re: World's largest hotel next to Haram-al-Sharif

Peace All

It presents a psychological problem to me and to many others. The Kaabah could be seen from miles away in the past. But now?

The argument for the building of high rise hotels is to accomodate the pilgrims. However, much of these places will be beyond the reach of many people. It is true that people who can afford the Hajj should go but by capitalising in this activity means that increasingly fewer people will be able to go. This should counter balance the increase in population therefore there will no longer be a need in building more hotels.

Perhaps all they need to do is put a limit to the pilgrims like they have done with their locals but then how will the industry sustain itself? It is a complicated decision ... I'm more in the mind of buidling further away and creating tram and train links for high speed Haram Mosque access. Also, may be to setup a circular rail link around the Haram so invalid people who need assistance can perform their tawaf on those trains, instead of those mean carrier men who push all the Hajjis out of the way. I saw once, a group of Malaysian women being pushed by those people, they were holding hands and about three or four of them fell to the ground.

People should be required to put more effort in their Umrah/Hajj but at the moment financial implications outweigh the health ones. It means more and more unhealthy people are going for Hajj provided they have the cash. However, I thought it was important for both money and health to be in order in order for Hajj to be mandatory.
