chaton ke ghulab

chal deeyay chor kar agar tum to
khatam hoti nahin hai duniya yaheen
aah bhar kar wakat na kattongi
bewafa ho hua karo, main bhi
dard apna kisi se kattongizindgi ke haseen gulshan se
chaton ke ghulab
chantoon gi.

If you abandon me
and go away,
the world will still be here.
I will not be
sitting around sighing.

You’re unfaithful, let it be.

I’ll share my grief with someone else
and in the beautiful garden of life,
I’ll pick my own roses of love.

It couldn’t walk on the ground,
now it lost the sky.
With it feathers cut,
the bird now cannot fly.

My desires for a brick house
brought me ruins.
Now I can’t even have
a village-mud-house.

Messing with others’ affairs
what did I finally get?
I couldn’t save them
and I lost what I had.

I wanted to forget him,
I’ve now no trace of his memory.
That man now is
beyond trust or honesty.

I’m an arrow shot by someone.
I couldn’t hit the target
and I lost the
bow.

What’s sunlight, what’s shadow,
the difference now I know.
What’s all this show,
now I know.

Seeing a smiling flower,
my eyes became tearful.
What’s happening to me,
now I know.

Years have gone by
but I remember him still.
How am I tied to him,
now I know.

The thirsty suffer all life
wandering in deserts.
What a patch of cloud is to them,
now I know.

Dhup hai kya aur saaya kya hai ab maluum huaa
ye sab khel tamaashaa kya hai ab maluum huaa

haste phoul ka chehraa dekhu aur bhar aayi aaNkh
apne saath yeh qissaa kya hai ab maluum huaa

hum baraso ke baad bhi unko ab tak bhul na paaye
dil se unkaa rishtaa kya hai ab maluum huaa

sahraa sahraa pyaase bhaTake saarii umar jale
baadal kaa ik TukaDaa kya hai ab maluum huaa

The Poet

The poet doesn’t sell himself for fame
Nor does he aim for wealth

He moves through emotional meetings
Hoping to meet someone with intellect

He offers his life for what’s right
And awekens the sleeping emotions

Aloofness is one of his other names
It’s hard for this gem of nature to live

His thoughts are lost emotions of man
His craze is to see light in the dark

The world does not see his flights
In the current river lies his future boat

Let man show humanity, submits the poet
Should man embraces love, his sins will be forgiven

Shaayar

Shohrat ka nahi saudai shaayar
Daulat bhi nahi iska nishaanaa
Bus bhatkay hai dil dil ki mehfil
k mil jayay koi chehra-e-daanaa

Umr apni tehzeeb ko day jaataa hai shaayar
JazboN ko neeNd say jagaa laataa hai shaayar

Safar-e-shayar kaho ya naam laylo tanhai ka
k itna dushwaar hai jeena laal-e-khudai ka

Afkaar iskay aadmi kay bhoolay huay ahsaas
JunooN iska mehw-e-neeNd main say jaagoN ki talaash

Nahi pehchaany parwaazaiN iski daur-e-zamaanaa iska
Dariya-e-haazir main hai shayar ik safinaa-e-fardaa

Tasleem-e-shaayar hai gar aadmiyat ko pa jay aadmi
Muaaf gunaah sub hoNgay gar muhabbat ko pa jay aadmi.

From each strand of her hair
will hang a serpent,
her eyes that please hearts
will be pierced,
on hot burning coals
will her tender body be placed
for the sins she has committed.
What mercy later!

Though Allah is the rightful
master of every heart,
her body and soul she has
given to someone forbidden.
She’s loves someone who
is forbidden.

The original in urdu

namarham

uske har moo se lapata johga ek sanp
dilkash ankhain us ki daagi jayengi
angaron par hoga us ka naram badan
aisay juram k baad rehim ki kya hogi umeed
halan k har dil parwandaar Allah hai
us k jaan aur jism ka hai mukhtaar koee maharm, lakin
us ko ek namahram accha lagata hai

usdi har lar tay liptia hosi ik sup,
usdian dil-kash akhaan wich seekhaan payeean hosan,
angaarian tay peyaa hosi usda naram shreer,
aapnay jurram de baad fir o kay umeed rakhsi,
halan k Allah hi saaday dil da rakhwaala hai
jaan tay deh ohnay kisay hor nu de rakhi hai
ik manna keetaa hoya aadmi ohnu bada chungaa lagda hai.

Would you like to meet again
the same way at the same place
with the same taste
in the same moments of happiness,
in the same doubtful veins,
that we cherish our friendship
and jealousy shows distress,
that I tell stories to someone and
to someone you tell your stories
but
these stories have a story
of our own?
Would you like to meet again
the same way at the same place?

kabhie milen phir?
ussi tarha
ussi jagah
unhi lamhon mein
aur unhi lamhon ki lazzatton mein
wohi khush gumaniyon ka chaand
wohi bad-gumaniyon ke bhanwar
wohi madd-o-juzer rafaqaton ke
wohi azaab raqabaton ke
mae kisi se koi kahani kahoon
tum kisi se koi kahani kaho
aur
asl mei ik kahani ho
jo apni ho
kabhi milein phir ussi tarha, usi jagah?
