I think the WI BG match should have been rescheduled to another day to finish the match.
Zimbabwe got four points for winning a match they didnt win? England puts themselves and pakistan and india to fight for one spot instead of two, or maybe england thinks it can beat Australia?
Rumors of Australia boycotting Zimbabwe are obsurd. if this happens, it will be a disgrace not only to australia, but to the world cup 2003.
I think the WI BG match should have been rescheduled to another day to finish the match.
** That would be a logistic nightmare. If they keep rescheduling all rained out matches, this tournament will go on endlessly. Rain is part of a cricket. Sometimes it works for u, sometimes not. **
England will pay for it's stubbornness.
Australia has said it will play. I believe them more than I believe your reporting. But I agree, if they do opt out, pool A becomes ridiculous.
im not reporting it. im just saying theres been rumors, and i don't think theyre true. but if they are its messed up.
rain is part of cricket, thats true. But a big tournament like this should have som eother way of compensating for a rain day game. It doesnt't mater if its a big match or a easy match such as WI BG. I am sure WI BG coudl have just as easily played the next day at the same or a different venue where matches are not played. remember, theres only like 2 matches every day, i think thas a lot of time to reschedule matches.

well if thy play the match next day, imagine the television costs, hotel costs etcetc, it was a budget decision that the reserve day for POOL natches were scrapped.

And guys whatever happend to the bonus points system, I thought they were going to use that for the world cup. Its alot better then the net rate.

well the reason for abaondoning that system was the famuos SA-AUS tie in VB series where SA played not to win but just to avoid handing australia a bonus point that would have guaranteed thier clash with them in final.
if the costs go up, so be it. it is a major event, and if costs have to go up to keep things "Fair" then its somethign that needs to be done. ties should only be given when the match is tied, not because theres rain, that just calls for delayed matches, like any other outdoor sports (baseball, football, rugby)
There should be reserve days for interrupted matches, regardless of the cost but not just if it rains but match can still reach a conclusion on reduced overs method. But only if the match has to be abondoned and points divided like the WI-BD match.
There are never too many of these so costs for such occurences should be borne because it is the World Cup, not a simple tri-series etc. It rained in many matches but so far only one had to be abondoned. So the costs for this cannot be too forbidding. There are going to be 60 matches in the Cup. The costs for a few extra matches can't be too high compared to that and certainly not more important than the credibility of the whole tournament.
But nothing can be done in cases like England/Zimbabwe, if one team decided not to show up the other one gets the points. That is quite fair, whatever the results. If the team not showing up has a valid reason then ICC can shift the match but it's clear England's concerns weren't and ICC rightly turned them down.
India and pakistan will have to make it to super sixes by performance, they can't complain about zimbabwe's points. It's no excuse. Besides there is no guarantee that Zimbabwe couldn't have beaten England, they're a quality side.
well Australia can get Zimbabawe into the super six by just forfeiting the match as England did, and by this Englan India Pakistan have just one chance between themselves!!!!
well its gonna be really a tuff competition betweeen, Pakistan simply has to win all three matches and dont keep the fans under pressure as the first aim is to get into super sixes ..... Insha Allah Pakistan will get there!
can someone please explain how the net run rate works? if i score 250 of 50 overs and bowl out my opponents for 160 in 40 overs, it's not
(250/50) - (160/40) = 5 - 4 = 1; instead would it be (250/50) - (160/50) = 5- 3.2 = 1.8?
