Re: World Cup - Australia vs Italy (round of 16)

Italians are getting a joke of route to the semi-final here. It's alright, Argentina shall take care of that then :o .

Re: World Cup - Australia vs Italy (round of 16)

What a heart breaker for the Aussies. I'm not a soccer expert but it didn't look like an intentional foul at the end.

Re: World Cup - Australia vs Italy (round of 16)

^ The foul was committed within 10 yards of the goal hence PK.

I don't think Grosso went into the challenge thinking dive, but when Neill presented him the opportunity, he took it. I also believe that Neill did intend to impede. He really hurt himself by turning his body. If he would have stayed still, things would have been less clear. Things were also made more difficult, because Grosso is a clumsy player, but I think with Neill turning it was difficult to get around him.

At the same time, Australia can't feel totally robbed. I do believe Neill was trying to impede Grosso, gaining whatever advantage he could. But there's also no question that Grosso dove, as he really didn't try to avoid going down.

Re: World Cup - Australia vs Italy (round of 16)

italy will win the world cup!

They are getting more and more effective. and their defence is rock solid: Cannavaro is in great shape. Nesta will come back from an injury, so he is rested. And Zambrotta is full of self-confidence at the moment.
Midfield looks very stable: Gattus - Pirlo - Perrotta and totti in front of them. I'm just worried about their two strikers. Hopefully they can get to score more easily against Swiss.

finally: Buffon is the accepted best keeper in the world

Re: World Cup - Australia vs Italy (round of 16)

Are you kidding me? The last defender in the box throws himseld flat on the ground clearly impeding a striker and you are saying it's not a PK? You gotta be kidding me. Forza italia!!!

Re: World Cup - Australia vs Italy (round of 16)

Nes: I wish it was true but I dont think Italians are improving. Their best game was against Ghana. Since then their performances have gone down. They won against Czech thanks to a one man advantage and lack of fire power in czech armory. Strike duo is not firing and this is where their most problems lie. They were lucky to scrape through yesterday even.

At this form, they wont be scaring the likes of Brazil or Spain. They should get to the semi final easily though and lets hope they peak at the right time.

Dream on…

Re: World Cup - Australia vs Italy (round of 16)

Last defender in the box?! there was still a defender in the box..very correctly positioned. The ref was standing a bit too close to the contest. At best the PK was grey. That said.. Italy defended very effectively. Hiddink should've sent in Aloisi earlier and then another striker when Italy subbed a defender in.
