Re: World Cup - Argentina vs Mexico (round of 16)
WHAT AN INCREDIBLE STRIKE ![]()
Just imagine the pressure, situation, occassion. To come up with something like that… unbelievable… ![]()
Re: World Cup - Argentina vs Mexico (round of 16)
mexican goalie had no chance to stop that one
Re: World Cup - Argentina vs Mexico (round of 16)
One of THE best goal.
Re: World Cup - Argentina vs Mexico (round of 16)
glad sto see the refs not being so trigger happy with the yellow cards for a change
Re: World Cup - Argentina vs Mexico (round of 16)
Freakin the football took a deep dive down to go inside the goal. It was like guiding cruise missile. At first glance the ball seems like go over the goal.
Re: World Cup - Argentina vs Mexico (round of 16)
Still 15 mins to go...
Re: World Cup - Argentina vs Mexico (round of 16)
Switching ends for next 15 mins.
Re: World Cup - Argentina vs Mexico (round of 16)
what a lame shot at the goal by the mexicans, a gali ka bacha goalie would have saved that one
Re: World Cup - Argentina vs Mexico (round of 16)
Exactly!!! They were showing top 10 goals of this world cup and NONE of them really looked AMAZING but this one was surely one of the best if not THE best goal of this WC.
Re: World Cup - Argentina vs Mexico (round of 16)
mehico eliminated but they played really well today :k:
Re: World Cup - Argentina vs Mexico (round of 16)
YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!! Argentina a rethrough to next round :D
One step closer to lifting up the 2006 World Cup :D
Re: World Cup - Argentina vs Mexico (round of 16)
^ they will have to beat the germans first in 1/4s, and im not so sure anymore right now if they can
Re: World Cup - Argentina vs Mexico (round of 16)
Excellent game, Argentina played sensibly in extra time after attaining the lead, excellent posession of ball.
Re: World Cup - Argentina vs Mexico (round of 16)
This is why hard-working, tactically brilliant but generally mediocre sides like Mexico dont win cups. They lack players who can produce a moment of magic; just like Rodriguez did for Argentina :)
Re: World Cup - Argentina vs Mexico (round of 16)
good goal and escape by Argentina, but as I've repeatedly said, I'm not impressed by their performances so far. There are 2 problems: 1. Of course, against relatively easy teams they have played well, but their last two matches against Holland and now Mexico showed that if you put them under pressure (also IC did that as well in the second half) they are beatable (btw: if shud have been red for Heinze). 2. Their match against Serbia came too soon: they peaked too soon. If you want to win a tournament, your two best matches should be the quarter and semi-final (the final will come due to the momentum you have then). So after Serbia's match, Argentina can only go downwards
Re: World Cup - Argentina vs Mexico (round of 16)
^ nes with that logic, brazil should be going down in next matches, they also "peaked" in the first round's last match vs japan
Re: World Cup - Argentina vs Mexico (round of 16)
^no, that wasn't their peak (u don't know if they'll improve or not: they haven't played a match since yet )
Brazil is growing into the tournament.
Same holds for Italy and Holland. Also Germay, they started well, and have continuously improved their game.
Re: World Cup - Argentina vs Mexico (round of 16)
Congratulations to the Mexicans. Their pressing defence particularly bothered Riquelme and Messi; each of whose brilliance could only shine through in spurts. They essentially erected a 3-4 player box around each player every time they touched a ball- essentially denying them freedom to move as they normally do. Riquelme only has one weakness, really, being his rather average pace. This was well-exploited- although his free-kicks and corners were well up to his standard of genius.
Argentina showed their class in the face of a supreme effort from the 'Cans. Tight passing carved opportunities through the stringent defence. An exhibition of simply phenomenal skills catapulted them above the Mexicans- who fought hard in probably the tournament's highest quality encounter.
It should be a great one against the Germans, who one must not underestimate. They’re fighters
Re: World Cup - Argentina vs Mexico (round of 16)
I agree with the ‘peaked too soon’ argument but they have the players to pull out a moment of brilliance to bail them out of any tricky situation.
And by the way Mexcio tried to put them under pressure by stifling them and counter attakcing. But guess what, Argentina had the armory to pull herself out of a tricky situation. Same was the case with Holland, they never even wanted to win because of so many yellow carded players.
