well, they are good, but for me not in the same class as the players i mentioned (perhaps Beckham)

Well, I don't know where you live, but watching Owen play in the English Premiership, I can say he is one of the most skillfull and beguiling players there is.

In the Argentina match, he was surronded by three players but still got a shot, unlucky to hit the post.

Remember he won the European Player of the year.

Owen is a very good player, but he relies mostly on his speed.

And skill, amazing dribbling, and laser shot.

Yep totally agree with you.
He needs more of a build.

I had a feeling this year that the under-dogs would do good and one of them will eventually win the cup...

Same here. But I dont think one of the under dogs can win the WC.

I think England are now one of the favourites to win. Along with Italy and Brazil.

They can play suberb football, but they are inconsistent.

Yes..sure ...A team which scored 2 Goals in 3 matches(1 Panelty Kick) is surely favourite.

I think now Brazil,Spain and Italy is the team to watch out for.

SO far the only team in this WC has stood up to its hype is Brazil, others have failed miserably, I see a 94 repeat with Italy and Brazil in the final but would love to see Senegal win the WC

Funny you say that because bookmakers have England ranked behind those three. Btw, how may goals have Spain and Italy scored? Italy even lost.

As for the penalty kick, it is not easy to score when all that pressure is one you. not as easy as it looks.

And you know how many times England got unlucky and hit the bar?...FOUR!

Spain = 9 goals in 2 matched
Italy = 3 in 2 matches All field goals + 2 goals not allowed by stupid Refree.
Brazil = 6 in 2 matches.

I hope you can see the difference.Once Team is in Knockout stages you cant survive with draws. You need to score goals to win matches.

Guys do you mind if I add one more team to this lineup.

Germany 11 goals in 3 matches

Why are you saying two matches? they should be judged from three matches like you are judging England. Either way, Brazil goal tally is misleading because it was raised by
China, who are amateurs.

And lets not include goals not allowed by 'ref'. That would have changed many, many past WC's.

Umair-Germay tally is also misleading because it was agianst the worst team, Saudi, and their goalie also has cheddar cheese for hands!

If yu want to talk about Germany, remember that 5-1 thrashing England gave them a few months ago?

Oh yeh...German score was against Saudis...
but then how many others teams scored 8 goals againt Saudis...
Comeone ...givethe credit where it is due.I know you support England and I know that they r good team on paper but they ryet to show themselves in this worldcup.

Goals are important but don't forget that teams who scored conceded as well some. So I guess Germany has a + point here.

Even Ireland whose only world class player left scored 3 against the Saudis. But in the German game, Saudis has a particularly bad gam.
I am giving credit where its due by saying Brazil, Italy etc are fav's.

This German team is considered to be one of the worst German teams in decades.

As for the 4-0 Brazil China match, even Turkey scored 3-0 aginst China.

England and I know that they r good team on paper but they ryet to show themselves in this worldcup.

What do you mean? They beat Argentina, and if you watched the game, you'll know it was unlucky the score wasn't 3or 4 -0.

I think the reason behind English team not being successful is that they play too much club football, most of them with different teams, so they don't have that teamwork like other internationals do.
I got a chance to see couple warmup games for English and the lineup wasn't anything like the current English lineup.
If you look at the Brazilians or Spanish, who also play club football with different teams, they played couple of warmup games and their lineup was quite similar to the current wc lineup, maybe because English players are not well known to each other.

very good explanation.

I guess thats the reason English team is not able to perform to the level they are capable of.
They can do better.I hope they improve but till now there performace was just mediocre.
