RupayHalwa:
(UK) At 2 interviews at 2 different places both times the managers interviewing made it a point to ask me if I needed prayer facilities and suggested suitable places for prayer, asking me if it would accomodate my prayer needs. Both these managers offered me jobs.
One also assured me (with no prompting!) that the number of men working in the office outnumbered women by a great proportion (common in IT, it’s not an issue for me) but he would of course make sure that they would not use offensive language in front of me and asked if there were any topics of conversation that they should avoid in front of me. I didn’t get the the impression that he was saying it to be politically correct, he was in fact very sincere.
At another place the colleagues used to actually say to me, you are supposed to pray now, u will get late!
Another place had a dedicated prayer room even though there were only 2 muslims in the whole office of several hundred people (I was the 3rd to join). My manager then was a white female, she asked me to “have a little prayer” for her sometimes. Others used to ask too sometimes.
People did ask questions about praying and why we do it, how often, what does it mean etc, after the initial phase when they felt it might be rude to ask.
Yeah one of the co-workers had the habit of asking tooo many questions, but they i kind of started to ignore her question and change the topic.
Facists/racists and media in Non-Muslim countries are making false claims that we want to impose Shariah upon them to create hatred and phobia of Islam amongst the people, which is just not true, because according to Islam even the Non-Muslims living in Islamic countries should be granted the autonomy and protection to live with freedom and be ruled by their own laws (Jewish Halacha etc.). Evem the Non-Muslims under the Prophet’s rule were allowed their own “shariahs” and western countries are not even Islamic, they are Christian/Secular and we Muslims living here respect that and appreciate being allowed to practice our religion here…
…We are not offended by Christianity, some loonatics (secular white mp’s) here wanted to rename Christmas to Winterval because they thought it offended the religious minorities, somebody else wanted to ban nativity scenes for the same reason, all that is BS, Christmas and nativity scenes do not offend us, that is not something we want at all, other religions or their freedoms don’t offend us, what offends us is books and cartoons depicting our beloved Prophet in a bad manner, we wouldn’t insult Christ, Moses or Guru Nanak so why insult our Prophet in the name of freedom of speech? It’s either one extreme or the other, all we want is mutual respect and harmony.
See we can’t think like them. We believe in Jesus and Moses as much as Prophet (SAW) because that is our imaan.
We can only educated and let them know the right from the wrong…and they can decide for themselves. unfortunately, they are not changing their thinking.
nice what kind of workplace?
