**my boss is a white female and very staunch christian but she doesn't mind at all when i pray in the corner of my lab, in her office or on the farms * since, i do NOT have any rigid working hours so i always go for Jum'a prayer, alHamdolillah :)
this guy i know, his boss is a Hindu. he is a researcher while the prof is Hindu...u won't believe that he gifted a jaa-namaaz and he is the one who reminds the prayer time. he is a gem...very accomodating :) we need ppl like him :)***
I have had it easier. My line of work demands religious or cultural sensitivity. So when in New york there was a specific room where you could go to pray. Even now, I can take 10 minutes out and pray in my office or the mosque in the compound. It benefits that I work in a muslim majority country.
British people are generally very accomodating and respectful of our religion.
Most office-blocks, factories, mills etc. in this country have prayer rooms and wash-areas.
At school our head teacher use to let us use his office for Friday and Afternoon prayers, you know how young Paki/Bangi lads are, always left it a mess but our teacher was a gem, he never complained once, we shouldn't abuse the facilities and the generosity people show us...
Britain is very welcoming of Islam and all religions and cultures...
...From what one hears in the media the rest of Europe however is very xenophobic and hateful of us, they probably aren't as accomodating (ban on Mosque towers in Switzerland, ban on scarves in France, insulting cartoons in Denmark, stabbing of a pregnant Muslim woman in a court infront of her 3 year old child and husband in Germany)...
Muslims and oil rich Arab sheikhs should boycott racist, facist countries like Switzerland and Denmark etc.
I don't know what it's like for Muslims in USA but I use to visit an American bulletin board and 99% of the people on their had issues with a university installing footbaths in the bathrooms for their Muslim students to wash in...
I think Great Britain is probably the best Western country for Muslims, except for a few minority idiots like the BNP/EDL, it's a shame they control the media.

Maybe Christian countries can also boycott Muslim countries that persecute and mistreat Christians, such as Egypt, Pakistan or Indonesia. After all, Christian girls are beheaded in Indonesia and Iraq by Islamic extremists with no outrage from Muslims. Your lack of outrage on religious freedoms in a lot of Muslim countries says a lot about your hypocrisy, doesn't it?

Its good they show sensitivity, do you travel a lot to different places for your line of work?

Yeah the Swiss ban on Minaret's is an example too.
Well the Uni I went to they had their own MSA..where we shared the prayer area with the Jewish group and Christian group and held couple of successful events during ramadan
I don't know too much about Europe, but Britain seems more sensitive them some other countires like France or even like Denmark or Germany like you mentioned.
(UK) At 2 interviews at 2 different places both times the managers interviewing made it a point to ask me if I needed prayer facilities and suggested suitable places for prayer, asking me if it would accomodate my prayer needs. Both these managers offered me jobs.
One also assured me (with no prompting!) that the number of men working in the office outnumbered women by a great proportion (common in IT, it's not an issue for me) but he would of course make sure that they would not use offensive language in front of me and asked if there were any topics of conversation that they should avoid in front of me. I didn't get the the impression that he was saying it to be politically correct, he was in fact very sincere.
At another place the colleagues used to actually say to me, you are supposed to pray now, u will get late!
Another place had a dedicated prayer room even though there were only 2 muslims in the whole office of several hundred people (I was the 3rd to join). My manager then was a white female, she asked me to "have a little prayer" for her sometimes. Others used to ask too sometimes.
People did ask questions about praying and why we do it, how often, what does it mean etc, after the initial phase when they felt it might be rude to ask.
On many occasions I’ve condemned and denounced “Islamic” terrorism and “Muslim” terrorists.
There is a difference between a democratically elected goverment and a bunch of loonatics claming to be “Islamic” (these so called “Islamic” extremists also happen to target Muslim civillians).
The majoirty of Pakistanis or Muslims do not support attacks on Non-Muslim civllians regardless of whether they are Pakistani or not, such cowardly acts bring shame and dishonor to Islam.
Pakistan and Muslim countries don’t make hollow, superficial and hypocritical claims of secularism and freedom of speech yet there are big beautiful Christian churches with massive crucifixes in all the Pakistani cities and towns I’ve been to (even though Christians are a small minoirty in Pakistan) because Islam demands freedom of religion for the minorities living amongst us, we don’t feel threatened by church towers.
The Pak goverment has banned the Da Vinci code because the Pakistani Christians demanded it. Religion is a very sensitive and important thing for Pakistani and Asian people in general regardless of what religion they are.
Just as you say Muslims play the victim card, Christians also do that, sometimes Christians (and Muslims) from third world countries play the victim card to come to USA and UK as refugees, and some religious organisations also have their own agendas to perputate anti-Muslim sentiment.
Yes there are some idiot so-called Muslims who are angry at the west and will take their anger out on Pakistani Christians but those type of Muslims are a blemish on the glorious face of Islam, you get idiots like that in every society…
…In the UK we have pigs heads thrown into our Mosques, we have arson attacks on our Mosques, our cemetries are vandalised, our women have veils ripped off their faces but that doesn’t mean all British White Christian/Athiest people are like that, does it? Just as most Brits condemn scum like that most Muslims/Pakis condemn the scum from amongst our community.
The so-called Muslims who harm Non-Muslim minorities are going against our religion, our Prophet said:
“He who hurts a dhimmi (Non-Muslim citizen of an Islamic state) hurts me, and he who hurts me annoys Allah.”
“Whoever hurts a dhimmi, I am his adversary, and I shall be an adversary to him on the Day of Resurrection”
“On the Day of Judgment, I will dispute with anyone who oppresses a person from among the People of the Covenant, or infringes upon his right, or puts a responsibility on him which is beyond his strength, or takes something from him against his will”
“Whoever makes a snide comment to a dhimmi has earned Hell.”
“Whoever makes a snide comment to a Jew or a Christian deserves Hell.”
“Whoever killed a mu’aahid (person under peace covenant) will not smell the fragrance of Paradise, although its fragrance may be detected from a distance of forty years’ travel.”
Facists/racists and media in Non-Muslim countries are making false claims that we want to impose Shariah upon them to create hatred and phobia of Islam amongst the people, which is just not true, because according to Islam even the Non-Muslims living in Islamic countries should be granted the autonomy and protection to live with freedom and be ruled by their own laws (Jewish Halacha etc.). Evem the Non-Muslims under the Prophet’s rule were allowed their own “shariahs” and western countries are not even Islamic, they are Christian/Secular and we Muslims living here respect that and appreciate being allowed to practice our religion here…
…We are not offended by Christianity, some loonatics (secular white mp’s) here wanted to rename Christmas to Winterval because they thought it offended the religious minorities, somebody else wanted to ban nativity scenes for the same reason, all that is BS, Christmas and nativity scenes do not offend us, that is not something we want at all, other religions or their freedoms don’t offend us, what offends us is books and cartoons depicting our beloved Prophet in a bad manner, we wouldn’t insult Christ, Moses or Guru Nanak so why insult our Prophet in the name of freedom of speech? It’s either one extreme or the other, all we want is mutual respect and harmony.
Very accommodating ... my work place has a number of prayer rooms and we have our own internal khutbah's for Friday and we have our own intranet site on the company intranet.
Mine is very accommodating as well.. fortunately our only masjid in the town is only two blocks from my work place so If there is no emergency I can go and pray there, usually I end up combining both zuhr and asr! For Friday prayer, I take my hour lunch break and attend the jummah with lunch.
Yeah one of the co-workers had the habit of asking tooo many questions, but they i kind of started to ignore her question and change the topic.
See we can’t think like them. We believe in Jesus and Moses as much as Prophet (SAW) because that is our imaan.
We can only educated and let them know the right from the wrong…and they can decide for themselves. unfortunately, they are not changing their thinking.
