working women outfits.

Hello ladies!

For those of you who work and the dress code requires you to wear smart clothes i.e. no blue denim jeans, no causal shoes etc

what kinda stuff do you wear? that is both fashionable/looks good and fits in with dress code?

Also in the hospital we are not allowed to wear any watches or jewellery due to some gay infection control rules, so how can i snazzy up an outfit??

Re: working women outfits.

Junior docs are always so nicely dressed. I'd say try and stay away from the basic trousers + shirt and do colours combinations beyond the basic black/grey.

I saw one girl wearing a dark navy dress and really nice black ballet flats with aubergine tights and a scarf matching the tights.

Always have a nice bag :D

Re: working women outfits.

ooo i remmeber i had this light grey check waistcoat with matching trsouers and a coloured blouse. i don't dress smart often (yet, thank god) but what stoppits said, about colour.

Re: working women outfits.

I like the colour matching idea!

So what colours go nicely together??

Navy and Mustard? Forest Green and Maroon?

What else?

Sweetif - I think wasitcoats are soooooo sexy, I have nearly really had the confidence to wear one but will try it out! what colour blouse did you wear?

Re: working women outfits.

Wrap dresses are really, really flattering and smart. Umm scarves definitely, but try not to match things together too much, obviously. I usually wear some nice smart jackets (like, fashion jackets) which look really good as smart wear, I've got some really nice damask print ones, brocade ones etc which look good as the main style piece. Also, nice shoes!!

Re: working women outfits.

dont you find wrap dresses show off all your lumps and bumps?

Re: working women outfits.

MMMmmm not really, I find them really flattering. I guess it depends how tight they are and what your body shape is like. I find long dresses really really suit my figure, so maybe it's just me then, cos I do have a long-ish body.
But i'd still recommend some pretty jackets :)

Re: working women outfits.

@inspiron -yeh, i was gonna say that. i also think wrap dresses are more casual-smart.

wrap dresses are also pretty boobiliscious. my hubby would not be happies.

Re: working women outfits.

i like to play with colors. from blacks, greys, whites to red, yellow, pinks. when i buy tops my focus is usually the neckline.

but then for me some are masi days and some are princess days. and oh i hate to carry bags/purses. its like they are stopping my freedom.

Re: working women outfits.

For winter, I have warmer/darker colors for tops. Navy blue, mustard, purple, black, grey, caramel, offwhite, midnight blue, dark greens, crimson etc.

Tops are sweaters, turtle necks, boat necks, long sleeve tops, or even short sleeved ones that can be paired with cardigans. Argyle prints are always there every winter.

Pants - nothing like well fitted, flattering pair of dress pants. Boot cuts/straight legs is what I like wearing most these days.

Shoes - flats. Pumps or booties with 2.5" heel is most comfortable for me to wear around the hospital, as there's a lot of walking involved.

Then I change it up with sweater dresses and leggings + boots (obviously not the kind that seem like you're going to a party/hangout place). Wrap dresses are also great as suggested above.

Jewellery - there's really no specified restrictions here, but common theme is to keep it small, clean, sophisticated/elegant. I can't believe you can't wear watches! That's crazy.

Lastly, you can always wear a nice pair of stylish scrubs that are comfortable, paired with long sleeve undershirt and a hoodie for winter.

Re: working women outfits.

Just some ideas…

Pair the above two dresses with coordinating leggings/tights and knee high boots

for the coordinated outfits…take out the jewelry/accessories as required by the hospital, but you can still keep a fresh, trendy look with peices like these…

Re: working women outfits.

Can you please tell me where did you get this image from? I’d like to see a bigger image of this dress, if possible.

Re: working women outfits.

I found it on the website pinterest.com. It's a site where people swap ideas/pics...you have a virtual "board" where you can "pin" things. The website is by invitation only through facebook or twitter, if you want to PM me your email add, i'll send you an invite

Re: working women outfits.

I really like the dress khattichic!

I have one in hot pink, but the navy you posted is more work suited!

Re: working women outfits.

Im not allowed to wear jeans either but our 'uniform' doesn't have to be so smart.

Most of the teachers in my school dress like tramps with their trackies (should only be worn if teaching P.E), combat trousers (REALLY?) and corduroy trousers (I detest corduroy trousers, skirts are fine). Whenever I wear dresses and skirts I get called a snob. :(

When I went shopping with my doctor friend she said her shoes had to be perfect, so although she went for flats, she went for Jimmy Choo flats as apparently they are more comfy than the Topshop flats I suggested. I wouldnt know though.

Sent you a PM

Re: working women outfits.

Generally, there are no rigid requirements about dress code for teachers…especially in public school. And most I’ve seen dress casually…a few I’ve seen will take it to the extreme and look “bum’ish” with shorts and baggy tees, lol. I vowed to myself I’d never be the kind of teacher that wears them denim overalls with the alphabet embroidered on them in rainbow thread and with a snowman brooch during the winter and jack-o-lantern earrings for Halloween, :hehe: I wear my dress pants with fitted collar shirts…or a blouse…or a nice tunic/cami with a cardigan. I like shopping at New York & Company…I think they have good variety when it comes to professional wear and at a lower price.

Re: working women outfits.

Yup, that’s pretty much how everyone at my school dresses too…we have a casual school tshirt/ jeans day once a week…NY&CO is great for work clothes!!!

Re: working women outfits.

Inspiron, do you think preppy style will work in your hospital enviroment? And how do your collegues dress up?

Re: working women outfits.

Wear blazers over a formal-ish dress maybe?
