Working while Pregnant + Working while caring to a baby.

  1. I’m pregnant. 19 weeks to be exact and I’m starting work tomorrow. I havn’t worked since I got pregnant because I’ve had very low blood pressure and severe nausea. I’m really REALLY excited to be going back to work, but a bit worried as well. I don’t know what to bring with me in terms of lunch/snacks. I havn’t worked for almost 4 months now and I’m worried how my body is going to react when I’m back at work.

  2. I really want to go back to work asap after the baby comes, like within a couple of months. Babies nani and dadi will watch it while I’m at work, I’m just afraid that it’s going to be too hard? I don’t know. Any new moms who went back to work within months of their baby being born? How was it? Pros? Cons?

Where are you based? Does your company offer maternity leave? I personally would try and spend as much time with my baby as possible but if i had to go back to work i would maybe consider when he/she is 6 months. We get up to 1 year leave here in the uk

Is there a reason why youre so eager to go back asap? Finances? If you have a good family support system and wont be shelling out for childcare then I suppose its fine to go back it just depends on how you would feel at the time

As for going back to work now just as you would plenty of fluids make sure you eat properly take a proper packed lunch and fruits etc with you if your on any meds dont forget them also

Re: Working while Pregnant + Working while caring to a baby.

I'm thinking of going back to work when the baby is around 3-4 months. I live in Denmark and we do get a year off, but financially it's not ideal for me, because I'll only get the equivalent of a part-timers pay - unless I find a full-time job and work there for 4 months, but that seems impossible right now, I'm only able to find part-time postions....

I would have loved to spend a year with my baby, but it's going to be too hard financially. But my mom and mil will look after the baby, so that gives me some sense of peace.

Ahh okay i understand alot of women do choose to go back to work early if its better for you then go for it, or will you manager be able to negotiate some hours with you? Or mayb 4 days a week then 5? What about your hubby will he be working full time?

Re: Working while Pregnant + Working while caring to a baby.

I'm hoping for longer, but fewer days, but we'll see how it turns out .... My husband is going to be working full-time ....

Re: Working while Pregnant + Working while caring to a baby.

  1. what kind of work do you do that has you worried how you will react? pregnant women are able to work most any kind of job as long as they are going through a normal pregnancy. I assume your healthcare providers have cleared you to return to work? if they have ... rest will be up to you to maintain your nutrition, hydration etc...

  2. i went back to work full time 3 months after my first baby and plan to do same for my 2nd. I had no help or babysitters. it worked for me only because I worked at night exclusively ... so husband and I were able to hand off baby care to each other.
    its tough but doable.

Re: Working while Pregnant + Working while caring to a baby.

I worked until the day before. I kept a lot of fruits with me (apple and apple juice are great with low blood pressure.) I also kept boost/ensure type of drinks with me. Bags of mix nuts, cheese cubes etc. in summary keep a lot of snacks at your office.

I was back to work after two months, not enough time with the baby. For the next one i will me taking at least 3 months (that the max we can have here in the US.) It takes about 3 months for a baby to start sleeping a little longer (6 hours at night time if your lucky.) So that is another reason.

Good luck!

I don't think there is any problem working upto your delivery - you are entitled maternity leave starting 4 weeks before your due date though. Is your husband in Denmark? If so, he will be entitled paid maternity leave as well, I can't remember the exact number of weeks now.

Do you plan on joining your part time job again or find something full time after the delivery? If it's the part time job again, then why not just continue with the maternity leave while you search for something full time?
