I started working out a week back after a break of about 1.5 years. Nothing bothered me for the first 5 days. But since the last two days I have been having major cramps in my legs. I started out walking about 2.5 miles everyday, burning on an average 550 calories, but now I cannot go beyond the 250 mark, my legs just start to give up. It’s not like I get exhausted, only the legs start cramping.
Am I doing something wrong? Shouldn’t this have happened at the start rather than a week after?
do some squats to tone up your quads and hems for a few days then go out for a jog or walk..your legs won't cramp up.do a lot of stretching before and after walking or jogging.drink a lot of water.
give those muscles a break for a couple of days. Do stretches and squats like desi said. Focus on upper body for those few days ? basically give them a chance to recover. And yes warming up and stretching before and after the workout will help. Water is good!
hmmm, I do skip the streching and teh water part. I think that's what is causing it. I bought a new pair of shoes for running, but they are making it harder, so switched back to the old comfy ones.
in order for your muscles to grow and bear the regular workouts, you must :
-sleep enough
-eat enough proteins (lots of girls tend to undereat protein, because of slimming diet)
-have enough vitamins, minerals and other nutrients found in veggies and fruits
finally regarding shoes, it's better to have thick and suple shoes, to ease the shocks on the ground and avoid damages to your articulations....so running on tender grounds like a beach or grass, is preferred to hard grounds like streets
