Or having classes at school.. How do you feel about that?
Those who are living in Islamic countries are ofcourse the luckier ones but those living in west in particular either take a day off or get stuck at job.
Do you find it stressful?
I was unable to take off. I always forget that hajj and Baqra eid was tied together. Asked for this time out but no hajj plans were panning out so I withdrew the leave request. Got scheduled to work 7 pm to 7 am shift and then couldn't get out of it. Someone offered to cover but that means he would work all night last night and be driving this morning a few hrs. And I didn't want him getting into an accident.
So another eid spent at work.
It would be helpful to know the dates at the beginning of the academic year.
I didn't even go to namaz. Came home at 7:30 and slept and just woke up now at 5 pm to go back to work.
I was thinking of picking up some Indian food or something but no one here will be able to handle the smell. They will pass out.
Yeah it sucks. But the way I see it there are people on duty in the hospitals on eid in Muslim countries too. Someone has to man the hospital.
My parents always took time off work (we live in NA) and we missed school on eid days.
My husband and I we never take it off, kids don't miss school either, going to the mosque with a maniac toddler seems very stressful -- we just save everything for the coming weekend(s).
I will definitely be changing this routine as kids get older, so we can go for prayers
ps: I miss my bakar eid spent in lahore, nothing can ever top that
I have nothing against those who choose to work or go to school, but no way in hell is anyone going to look down on me for taking my (rightful) day off.
Even if I sit around doing nothing on Eid day, I have every right to take off. I have a general idea of when Eid is, so I put in the request and explain it to my supervisor that I will need 1 of 2 days off but will not know until the night before... no issue

I took a leave for today to pray eid namaz, and celebrate and wish family and friends.
Eid is best celebrated amongst family in Pakistan. Not much fun in western countries. Not in Canada at least
Totally agree. Celebrated this bakra eid away from family and friends for the first time and realized that they are the ones who make eid fun and joyful.
when I was working as a slave at Nielson I used to take two days off on both of the eids. I remember a incident when my immediate boss which also happens to be CTO, told me bluntly "i don't know care if it's diwali or Jesus himself coming, but you have to come and take the lead". my response was, Robert like it or not i am not available for next two days !
that one-liner made me 99% fired, but the deadline for the project save my a** !
p.s best eid is in Pakistan and all the dawats. regardless the meat which we eat all year along its the company which makes it more tasty !
by the way who doesn't like "kali mirch wala mutton" made by ami - heaven !
More often than not, I have taken off for Eid. But this time, I didn't. There was too much to do at work that would have piled up. And so stressful and busy was Thursday that I had forgotten it was Eid. And that's sad. Next year, I'll take off inshaAllah.

Interesting! Let me ask you this. Do you think there is a difference b/w what you used to know at the age of yr kids as compared to what they know now? Like we are all grown up but the memories of Eid in our childhood is still fresh as yesterday. And we had a heck of a time, ofcourse courtesy of our parents. Dont you think yr kids might be missing that part?
I remember my first day working on Eid and i was really stressed. Reason being I kept on remembering good Eid days where we really enjoyed and working on Eid sucked badly.
Yes Alhamdulillah, NYC is the only city in NA where we’ve Eid holidays in school.
From next year, Diwali and Holi are announced as holidays as well.
Eid Adha is huge occasion in Pakistan. Selecting animal, feed them food, apply heena on them and writing Eid Mubarak, decorating them with different colorful jewelry.
One of my friend used to keep the ghunghroo of cow and goat in loving memeory of animal.
My kids are still teeny weeny toddlers..(6,5 and 2)…You are right on the missing out part, what you are saying has already crossed my mind multiple times. My husband isn’t very cultural/traditional at all…I have already had sleepless nights in regards to the the fact what if my kids never speak fluent urdu/punjabi like myself…Whereas he clearly says ‘who cares’ But again I can put out a fight and I should
Perhaps inshAllah next Eid I can plan something out better if it falls on a weekday
On saturday nevertheless my ILS had an Eid party with all the family, They even requested me to make my famous Lamb karahi…(which was a big hit alhamdulilah)
My MIL bought a strawberry shortcake and my middle one asked ‘Oh whose BD is it’? Then my older one replies ‘It’s Eid’s BD yayyy’ LOLs. So we are getting there
