Working Moms/Wives - how and when and what do you cook!!

Re: Working Moms/Wives - how and when and what do you cook!!

If the wife is working to support her husband o meet the household expenses( even though this is not her obligation) then the husband necessarily have to support her in the household chores. all the ladies who are working to support their husbands and family financially and meanwhile are also putting a lot of thought and effort in cooking for the husband and the family( most of the times all by themselves) deserve a two thumbs up!!
And if the wife is a career-oriented type and wants to work not for financial reasons but to pursue her career because that is what she loves, and if the husband has a problem with that and wants to stop her so that he could have fresh salans everyday then he should not have selected a career oriented kinda girl in the first place. period.

I am a working mum. Since ammi is not feeling so well these days I do alot of cooking but I only cook on weekends , cook 3-4 dishes and then use them during the week. I keep one or two dishes that needs to served with rices so I make fresh rices as and when required.

I make rotis also everyday since I love making rotis but these days the garmi is killing me so I am not making them unless and until emergency na ho…so ammi makes rotis

2 months back, my mom was at bed rest due to fracture, so after coming from office I make meal for next day , doing other house chores as well. so that mom n dad just take the food and pre-heat in oven and serve. same is taken by my rest of family n me at dinner. On weekends, I prepare 2 dishes for upcoming days

I hope you do not get married just for food. Why are you eating frozen?, does your ammi not feed you (as per ladies job/meaning of life requirements).

On a more helpful note : I am a working mother and do most of my cooking on the weekends. I usually make a chicken salaan, kofta salaan, bean salaan or sabzi (usually palaak). On the weekdays I heat up the salaan (never frozen) and eat them with fresh made roti, rice or pasta.

Re: Working Moms/Wives - how and when and what do you cook!!

During the week I rely heavily on my oven. I marinate chicken peri, tandoori in tikka peices or on the bone even skewers. I do this the night before, as soon as I walk in I have the oven on so I have time free to do other things.

  • stir frys
  • bulk freeze lasagnes and before leaving for work defrost them
  • boiled rice with a salaan
  • omelette and chips
  • jacket potatoes
  • on Sundays I tend to cook for both Sunday and Monday
  • sometimes when I am home later we have a full englis breakfast, funnily enough my husband thinks this a treat

I do have a lot of quick recipes will have to post a meal plan later x

Re: Working Moms/Wives - how and when and what do you cook!!

Im not a mom but I am a wife that works. On friday or saturday I buy all the groceries I need. I will make a keema, chicken, a biryani chicken masala, and a ghoast with a veg. (my husband is a meat eater, so if a veg isnt cooked with meat, he gets sad, he will eat it but not happily). I freeze everything except for the veg. we eat the veg salaan on the weekends, and weekdays I just defreeze one salan. I make atta the night before, and before leaving work Ill make 5 roties, and put them ina hotpot. If its a biryani day, Ill just boil rice and layer when I get home, insead of in the morning.

I find having frozen shami kababs, daals, channas, in the freezer on hand its great. At times maybe over the weekend I might be more busy then usual, and I wont want to cook. Its easy to boil rice, fry some kababs, and defrost a daal.

I also feel that if you defrost a salaan in the microwave, and then move it to a pot on the stove, and add some fresh daniya on top feels less frozen.

I find cooking on Sundays to be great. I am cooking Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and then weekends we tend to eat out sometimes.
