anyone who has an office based in their home (please mention ur field of work), would like to share how working at home while being married helps or creates a challenge while balancing the home and work life?
Re: working at home while married.
There are 2 women in my office who work from home so they can take care of their kids at the same time. They're in the Software Support Dept. So they take the calls from home. Its easier for my company to keep an eye on their work because they're evaluated based on how many calls, they take.
I know both of them are very happy with the way, things are.
They work full time (9-6). Their job is very intense but they manage it from home.
Re: working at home while married.
I allow two computer programmer women in my office to work at home. One of them does, other does not want to.

Re: working at home while married.
men work from home, as well.
lawyers, artists, university professor etc.
IT people, like you shared.
to some degree, all people , women and men, can work from home.
i purposely opened this link under philosophy corner as the topic has a lot to do with the philosophy about one's life.
some people would prefer to work from home, regardless of their family obligations, while some cannot stay without getting out of the house, for a good chunk of their day and working away from home.
so, it has to do with the outlook on the work aspect of one's life.

Re: working at home while married.
while I was in consulting i worked from home every friday, in My previous role, I could work from home whenever I wanted, and even most of my meetings were conf calls since I was managing a globally distributed team.
There were days I would just wake up and not feel like driving in, my commute was 60-90 mins each way, somedays I would start working at home and then just jum in teh car and go to the office for a few hrs. I enjoyed the flexibility, although working too much form home could impact networking within the company and the face to face interaction with local people was always valuable.
In my current role it is very hard to work from home due to the nature of what I need to get done, but I do work from home a couple times a month
Re: working at home while married.
If you think "philosophy about one's life" is the same as Philosophy, you don't know anything about Philosophy.
Re: working at home while married.
I do work from home occasionally whenever my schedule allows it. The fact that my home office is a seperate room with a door that I can close makes it a lot easier.
Re: working at home while married.
I absolutely cant stand it when my husband works from home....he sits in the study and is taking his meeting callsand at the same time roaming in the house making these hands signals of everybody quiet!!!!My own routine gets messed up...while he is working from home!!!
Re: working at home while married.
i agree.
the work at home, has pluses and minuses.
the couple will have to regulate the work at home, issue, other wise, the work hours maynot be as productive as one would like them to be, just like if spent working, at an employers' premises.
Re: working at home while married.
Working from home takes a lot of discipline- its so easy to feel lazy or get distracted!
Re: working at home while married.
^^ i can agree!
Re: working at home while married.
To be very honest: I think I am far more efficient when I work from home because there I don't have all those Sales people that keep bugging me with trivial questions and waste my time that I could have used for actual work in the meantime.
So for me the chance of getting distracted in the office is higher than that of getting distracted at home.
