Are muslims allowed to work at banks…eventhough they may or may not be dealing with interest etc…

Now many Islamic banks are also operating. Islamic finance is getting popularity all over the world.
Western financial system failed to solve the problems of humanity. InshAllah Islamic finance would prevail in the world.

Its all fraud, Islamic banks do deal with interests hiddenly, Banks can't survive without interest.. I would say that working in a bank is like working on a wine shop..Though you dont drink it, but your income is still haram coz you are helping in one way to the soodi system.. So i don't think its OK to work in any bank..

There is no concept of Bank in Islam as far as i know..

In the west there is no concept of Islamic banking that i am aware of as well. And there are many muslims that choose to work in the banking sector. I agree with the above statment that "working in a bank is like working on a wine shop..Though you dont drink it, but your income is still haram coz you are helping in one way to the soodi system." Your not forced to work there and your doing it on your own free will, and your helping promote the use of interest in others lives....
Inshallah Islamic banking will soon be introduced in the west on a larger scale!

There's actually a pretty substantial Islamic banking industry in the UK, both consumer banking and Islamic banking.
Of course, the ironic thing is that jobs in Islamic banking in the west are extremely hard to get into, unless you already have experience working in the rest of banking - Islamic banks and Islamic banking divisions of other banks prefer to hire experienced bankers who now want to get into Islamic banking.
Which means the only way to become an Islamic banker is to spend a couple of years being a haraam banker. Wonderful, eh?

so you dont use banks to deposit your money and assets for safety reasons?

Wow, I didn't know that! That is quite ironic! I live in Canada and here I haven't really heard much in regards to this area...but of course I could be wrong again!!
I can understand how they want experienced ppl, but its funny how they are righting a wrong with another wrong...(if that makes any sense)!

Muslims are ready to pay taxes to the country they live in, which in turns goes and rage a war against Muslim Countries and kill Muslims/Humans, their taxes are also used in abortions which is killing as per my understanding... but when it comes to work in a bank, we get into these kind of questions..
So isnt like paying taxes to western countries Haraam as well. cause in a way you are supporting the govts right ??????........... Naah we Muslims will say that its MAJBOOREEE... huh..
Let me ask you another thing,,, dont you get insurance for your health or your car.. as far as I know, many of the western countries require both health and car insurance. Isnt insurance HARAM as well????

Just for the clarification, I dont mind paying taxes, and I dont mind buying insurance as well. Cause I know paying taxes gives me alot back. and insurance is required by the law, which saves us from a lot of trouble.

The thing is many muslims get into declaring everything as haram outright after migrating to west (not that it isn't) but that such an after thought hardly finds any utility. We do not have a better alternative to offer to society which is actually in place in any Islamic country either and working.

Lucid, like I work for a Bank... now. I am a NW guy, I dont lend, witness, pay or anything. But I support and enhance, and protect there network. Does that make my job Haram??? I dont think so...
on the other hand that you pointed out, every one likes to have credit card, this insurance and that insurance, cause its MAJBOOREEEE... but rest all is haram.. Everyone has their own perception. when someone talks in front of me about working at bank haram and stuff,, I ask him them the insurance and paying taxes question and then all of them have only one answer that its majbooreee :D

I personally see nothing wrong with earning an honest living through a bank job. If you consider the way our economy functions, most businesses pay their employees through payroll funds that have earned interest in a bank account anyways, so where should one draw the line. I think we ought to engage ourselves in something more productive than thinking about minute inconsequential details.

I was going to get to that. Salaries are paid from short term credit, which is primarily interest bearing not from the profits earned by a corporation.

Well i do, but its all in ''current accounts'' i mean i don't get a single penny of profit nor loss.. But i shouldn't do that too i know.. I mean in this way, though i don't get any sood or pay any sood, but still my money is helping the bank in some way for their soodi business.. I shouldn't keep it in bank.. Well i think the best thing is to buy land if you have lot of money and you fear keeping it in home, Then best thing is to buy land, or Gold..which will definately give you more halaal profit than the soodi profit which will be haraam and also less.. But i didn't have so much money lol.. i mean i have little money which is for my studies, thats all..so i keep it in bank without getting profit becoz i hv to use online banking sometimes... Though i shouldnt.. Which i will stop one day inshALLAH..

All western banks are haraam. All western insurance companies are haram. I just feel lile calling somebody haraam today.

Assalam o Alaikum
Working in bank is haram according to ulema as it is equivalent to earning money either thorugh haram source (Ribba/Interest and or presence of Gharar-Uncertaininty in the transaction) or supporting a haram business thorugh IT support or other indirect mode of service.
Income of Conventional Bank is primarily derived thorugh interest thus any one invovled in these banks support a Haram business. This in my humble opinion is worse then ( i repeat
worse then) working as an IT administrator for a large prostitute house or a guard for a pub simply because of the waeed affixed with interest ( War with ALLAH and his Prophet :saw: ).
Islamic Banks in principal do not generate income on Qardh /Loan rather through taking deposits in the form of Investment ( through Musharikah/Mudaribah ) and investing these investments as an Partner in other profitable businesses like selling on Cost plus profit(murabaha) , Leasing (Ijarah) etc.
