**Unidentified gunmen in Afghanistan’s Kandahar province have killed four people travelling in a bus, the local police said.**The dead included three Pakistani citizens who, according to one report, were working on a road construction project in the province.
A senior Kandahar police official said that the gunmen came on two motorycles and opened fire on the bus.
Taliban insurgents have targeted construction workers in the past.
Three other workers were injured in Thursday’s attack , the police said.
One report said that the victims were working on a project to repair a road connecting Kandahar city to Punjwai district.
About 121,000 US and Nato soldiers are based in Afghanistan fighting the Taliban, with another 30,000 due to be deployed, mostly to the south, by August.
A large offensive is currently under way against the insurgents in neighbouring Helmand province.
Afghan, US and Nato leaders say that that Kandahar also needs to be “cleared” of militants in order to pave the way for it fully to come under civilian control.
