work has started to frustrate me alot. i work in an office where occasionally i am asked to cover the main desk in the lobby area when those associates take lunches or breaks. a couple of months ago, we got a new general manager whos starting to pick on me. before i had a direct boss who i reported to and he was the most sweetest guy ever. he gave me the freedom to do basically everything i wanted and was flexible with my schedule etc. he left the company and now i have to report to the new GM since the replacement for my old boss has a different way of working and shes not my boss. ever since the new gm has taken over, i feel like she constantly find ways to make my job harder for me. starting with a checklist that she has come up with that i have to go by each day, she keeps adding different tasks to me all the time. what pisses me the most is that not even once before assigning something to me she asks if i am okay with doing it. its more like a command. today, this other manager who does our schedule emailed me saying U HAVE TO WORK SAT for 2 hrs to cover the main lobby desk cuz they have some employee meeting or whatever. i never work weekends so i was like wtf? first u give me a 2 day notice and without even bothering to ask if i am available ur commanding me to come in to work??? she said now once a month i haev to do it for 2 hrs on a saturday. first i would have probably not been so upset if she had ASKED me instead of bossing me around. second, it doesnt make sense for me to go in for TWO hours only and that too in the middle of the day. i said ok i’ll see but i have appointments and right after i said that, she changed the hours from 2-4 to 2-5. she said she already talked to the gm and she was fine with her telling me to come in on the weekend. i feel like i should help them out if they need to but i feel like she was NOT nice to me at all and i feel like being used at this job. what should i do? should i help them out this sat or stand up and say no?

I think she takes you for granted, if she is overloading you with stuff that is not related to your work, try and speak up. just for confirmation, do you work at hotel or front desk?

If you are in USA, Labor Laws require that they pay you for Eight hours if they ask you to come in........check with HR department or Equal Employment Office.
If they need you, you should show up, lest they use that as excuse to let you go..

do you work for a hotel? i work for one and i have seen people do this, especially managers. i feel so bad for our front desk staff who gets bossed around. you gotta speak up so that they are not taking advantage of you. if you're not hired for a certain position and you still help out with it as a courtesy, there's no reason for them to take advantage of you like that. clearly tell them that it's not your priority and that you need to have weekends off for your personal stuff. i am sure there are other people at your work who can cover too.

Tough situation, if you pick a fight then its going to turn nasty
So you'll have to turn into one of those sweet talk on face and ***** behind back person.
As for your weekend dilemma, You can come up with anything and get away with it.
Say you have classes OR volunteer work or a second job or smething.
