So i got started in my new job at this new firm, and its as swanky as hell. Swankier than i thought it would be and i’ve been taken aback all week.
From not knowing how to open the mineral water bottle and getting directions from across the table, from not being able to pour coffee from the thermos…to not understanding the incredibly long words coming from the training lawyers mouth and going ‘hmmmm hmmmmm’ and saying ’ quite possibly’ as a way to act intelligent and like im thinking about what she’d said…and WORST of all…
Having dinner together in a boardroom style office, placing each morsel very carefully, and dabbing the napkin around mouth every now n then…leaning over to get some crisps and…wacking the posh glass of water ..breaking it and having water all over the table and disturbing the munching diners
Divn’t worry about it pet, they probably have no idea what they are saying either. It’s all a learning curve. Just keep your head up, flash that gorgeous simle at everybody and carry a dictionary for all the long words. Oh and change your response every now and again, “quite possibly” won’t last you too long if that’s all you use.
When you walk around in the office aimlessly looking for people to talk to, always carry a bunch of papers in your hand. This will give the impression of you working and not wasting time. Worked wonders for me.
