whats the history behind them and what do they mean?
- SULLA? did u mean thulla?*
my mom says mian alot, rather then mussalman. she's always cussin off the mian in some way when she gets pissed with pakistan..or she's talking about iran and the parsis (she's of parsi decent)..or when she finds another hadeeth in my room..or some of the surah's i copied in arabic in my handwriting. whenever i chicken out on something stupid..or i get scared of something that's not really all that scary..she calls me mian phuskey. which in gujurati means...i think..a muslim who has his tail between his legs..i dunno..i get offended tho..but i don't think i've ever really done anything about it ya know..cuz she is my mom. to answer ur question..mian is just a way of saying muslim in distaste or hatred.
To my knowledge, mian is used as a term of endearment, not in distate.
In many parts of southern India where Hindi/ Urdu is not the language of the masses, 'bhai' is used, again in endearment, to refer to a muslim while the equivalent word in the local language is used to refer to a hindu.
Never heard about sulla
musla is another word used by the bigotted ones among hoindus to refer to muslims.
