Samsung has officially announced its first SLR-styled digital camera, the Pro815, an 8 megapixel 15x zoom model. It’s targeted at enthusiasts and boasts a lot of ‘world firsts’ including the largest LCD on a digital camera at 3.5 inches, world’s longest zoom on a high end camera and world’s largest capacity lithium ion battery. The fully manual Pro815 sports a Schneider-Kreuznach lens and boasts a color data LCD screen for waist-level shooting, 2.5fps continuous mode and ISO 800. High speed mode allows steady shooting at the long end of the zoom. It’s due to ship in August and will cost approximately £600.
Another great feature of the Pro815 is waist-level shooting, enabled by its top LCD. The 1.44" wide colour TFT LCD of the Pro815 displays a preview screen in real time, allowing the waist-level shooting style often adopted by professional photographers. This LCD position enables high-level shooting as well as taking pictures from various angles. The top LCD can also be used as a status LCD to display shooting data. Since the required information is available on the LCD at all times, you can shoot a subject or choose a desired function more quickly.
different beasts.. u're married to that lens on the Pro815, with a DSLR the sky (and u'r wallet) is the limit on what u can slap on it..
i see image stabilization missing on this 15x lens.. that should have sweetened the deal making it an ideal travel camera.. but we don't know the weight yet.. the 'prosumer' digicams are almost as expensive and heavy as the smallest DSLR like the Rebel XT or Pentax *ist D/Ds/DL or even Nikon's D50.. so not many selling points for serious amateurs.
let' see if the image quality displaces the Oly 8080 from it's top spot in the category..
whoa that’s heavy and very pricey! one can get a DSLR that will be lighter and cheaper with a much larger sensor and much higher Image quality and flexibility
keep a lookout for those Dell deals.. people have bought the kit for $750ish .. the body only would be a little under $700 if u stack your coupons right.. but Dell is only stocking Silver ones..
But the camera is to heavy. Besides that alhough it sounds pretty good I would like to see some pics and test results + comparisong with other camera's .
Especially since it is their first 'pro' camera. (so I read) :D
